Chapter 95
Bernard smiled slightly. “I have complete confidence in you. With Jasmine and Julian assisting you, you’ll be twice as effective. I’m sure you’ll all do a great job on the theme park project.”
Aveline was touched by Bernard’s appreciation. “Thank you, Bernard.”
She glanced over and saw Xavier’s dark, deep eyes on her. She coldly looked away and got into the car.
Bernard was a gentleman; he would definitely wait until she was in the car before getting into his own and leaving.
In front of Bernard, Xavier wanted to play the good guy, and Aveline couldn’t be bothered to argue with him. After all, she had a career to build, and just as Bernard had said, she needed to be more tactful.
Since the female secretary was driving, Aveline deliberately sat in the front passenger seat to be more personable.
Earlier that afternoon in the Executive Office, Rebecca had seen Claude giving Aveline the cold shoulder and thought Aveline was a troublemaker. She never expected her to be the architect for the Mount Ardwood Theme Park project, recommended by Mr. Clarke himself.
At the business dinner tonight, she saw Bernard, the project director, and the deputy director praising Aveline end- lessly. It made her realize how impressive Aveline was at such a young age to earn the praise of industry tycoons, and she couldn’t help but admire her.
Moreover, Aveline was humble and not at all arrogant, which made Rebecca like her even more.
Rebecca really couldn’t figure out why Claude would give Aveline the cold shoulder.
But Mr. Beltran didn’t let Claude join the business dinner tonight, probably because he was unhappy with how Claude had treated Aveline this afternoon.
Rebecca wanted to get on Aveline’s good side, so she said with a smile, “Aveline, so you and Ms. Sutton are sisters? Are you full sisters?
Ms. Sutton often comes to the company to see Mr. Beltran. A lot of people here are talking about when she and Mr. Beltran will have their wedding reception.”
Aveline glanced at Rebecca. Seeing the smile on her face, she knew Rebecca didn’t know the real story and was just trying to get friendly based on what she saw on the surface.
Aveline lowered her eyes, gave a sarcastic smile, and said flatly, “No. She’s the daughter of my father’s mistress.”
Rebecca’s heart skipped a beat, and for a moment, she was speechless.
She regretted trying to get friendly with Aveline, now that a third person was involved.
No wonder Aveline seemed so cold and distant toward Mr. Beltran. It was because his girlfriend was her father’s ille-

But Aveline was still taking on a project for the. What a complicated relationship.

Rebecca was a professional secretary, after all. She quickly thought of a way to diffuse the awkwardness. “Oh, so that’s how it is.
No wonder you and Ms. Sutton didn’t seem very close this afternoon.”
She added, “I’m sorry, Aveline. I didn’t know.”
Aveline said flatly, “It’s okay. I don’t mind.”
Rebecca quickly praised her, “Aveline, you’re so nice.”
Aveline turned to face the car window and gave a self–deprecating smile.
Of course she was nice. Her husband cheated on her with her half–sister, and she didn’t make a dramatic scene, didn’t expose their immoral behavior to the world, and even initiated the divorce to let them be together.
When they arrived at the Anmin Residential Community, Aveline asked Rebecca how she would get home. Rebecca said:
“Aveline, don’t worry about me. I can take the subway or call a car. I often work late and go home late, and it’s not that late right now.”
