Thankfully, the tense moment passed between us.

Alexander looked straight into my eyes, making my stomach jolt. “I would pay more than a million dollars just to sit beside you.” He

paused. “Even for just a moment.”

My brain short–circuited, and my mouth–became dry. His face was only inches away from mine. I knew he wasn’t messing with me because his dark eyes were serious. I had no idea how to respond to him.

Why did he choose right when I woke up to disarm me like that? It wasn’t fair how he always seemed to be either pushing me away or trying to bring me closer. I was getting sick of the push and pull of it all.

Irritation flowed through me since I didn’t appreciate Ava and

Alexander’s game of musical chairs. I sat up and crossed my arms. My cheeks warmed as I thought about how my breath probably didn’t smell great after sleeping for most of the day. As I scooted away from him, I rummaged through my purse and popped a piece of spearmint gum into my mouth. I turned away from him and looked out the window, admiring the gorgeous New York skyline.

After a moment, I turned to the front to say something to Aiden, but when I got a look at the driver, my eyes widened in surprise. What the hell? Richard had replaced Aiden. I shifted uneasily in my seat. It was beyond disorienting to fall asleep in a car with Ava and Aiden and then wake up with two completely different people in the car. It was similar to being ‘kidnapped‘ by your friends. It threw me for a loop.

Then, I glanced down at Alexander’s lap–the place where I had been lying just a moment ago–and my legs trembled when I saw the noticeable bulge in Alexander’s pants. My mouth dried as I continued to look. I couldn’t tear my eyes away from his hard length.

He was huge.

Finally, I managed to look up and meet Alexander’s eyes. He was smirking, as if he knew exactly what I had been staring at. He wasn’t at all embarrassed. Honestly, he had no reason to be. His hard length was impressive.

But this whole situation made me blush and look away from him.

When I felt his warm hand on mine, I bit my lip.

“I’m sure you’re wondering why we kidnapped you?” he said with

humor in his tone

I shot him a glare. “Yes. Yes, I am.”

Alexander kept his hand on mine, and his thumb traced soothing patterns on my palm. It made me just a little less annoyed with him. But only a little

Alexander scoffed. “As if I would trust that boy to drive me anywhere.” A smile played on the corners of my lips.

“Because you had been using Ava’s legs as a pillow for so long, her legs were starting to fall asleep,” Alexander explained. “So when we stopped for dinner, I kindly offered to take her place. We made the switch very quickly so we wouldn’t wake you up.”

“Well, how come Richard switched with Aiden?” I asked.

Alexander scoffed. “As if I would trust that boy to drive me anywhere.” A smile played on the corners of my lips.

Then, Alexander’s fuce grew serious, and he held my hand in his warm grasp. “Did we scare you when you woke up? That wasn’t my intention. I was really just trying to help out.”

“No,” I said, even though I had been scared. The soft expression in his eyes disarmed me in a way I didn’t understand. “I wasn’t scared. Did your legs fall asleep under the pressure of my big head like Ava’s?” I joked.

“No, it was…nice,” he admitted in a low voice. “Being your personal pillow, that is.”

He stared into my eyes, and my heart accelerated when he squeezed my hand.

After that, we were quiet for the rest of the car ride. I gazed out the window as we drove through the dark city. The twinkling lights were mesmerizing, but they didn’t hold a candle to the feeling of Alexander’s warm hand in mine.

I could feel his gaze on me, but I was too afraid of what would happen if I met his eyes. This night and Alexander’s presence felt too much like a dream. With a small smile on my face, I leaned over and pinched his upper arm.

“Ow,” Alexander muttered and rubbed his arm. “What was that for?”
