Chapter 113
Teresa pressed a hand to her chest, not even registering what Charles and Yolanda were talking about in the hospital room. After leaving the hospital, her mind was in turmoil–she wandered the streets, unsure of where to go.
Back in the hospital room, Charles frowned slightly when he heard Yolanda’s wish. He gently ruffled her hair and looked down at her, asking softly, “Why do you want that, sweetheart?”
Yolanda’s little face looked pale, and there were tears in her eyes. She pouted, sounding hurt as she said, “That day, Mom came to pick up Monica, but she didn’t even look at me.
“It was raining, and Sharon came to get me instead. I asked Mom to take me to Grandma’s place, but she ignored me and just took Monica away. Dad, I think Mom doesn’t want me anymore.”
Charles’s heart ached as he listened. He cupped Yolanda’s cheek, his voice rough with emotion as he comforted her. “It’s my fault for not arranging things better. I’m sorry you’ve been upset for so long.”
Yolanda shook her head. “I don’t blame you, Dad. I know you’re busy. But Mom was there that day–she could’ve taken me too, but she didn’t.”
Charles gently moved Yolanda away from his arms, cupping her little face and looking at her seriously. “Yolanda, no matter what your mom does, she’s still your mom. Naomi is not your mom. Don’t get the two confused, okay?”
Tears fell harder from Yolanda’s eyes. “Dad, if Mom doesn’t love me, can’t I have a different mom instead?”
Charles’s expression hardened as he firmly replied, “No.”
Yolanda, seeing his seriousness, stopped pleading and pressed her lips together.
Seeing Yolanda was feeling down, Charles patiently explained, “Mom is the one who brought you into this world, and nothing can ever change that. I know you like Naomi, and maybe someday you’ll want to call her Mom, but for now, she’s just Miss Naomi to you.”
Though Yolanda was still little and didn’t fully understand his words, she always listened to him. So, even though she was upset, she nodded and said, “Okay, Dad, I get it.”
Charles gently bumped his forehead against hers and smiled. “Yolanda, you’re the sweetest, best kid ever. I’ll always love you.”
me forever too?”
Yolanda’s smile finally returned. “What about Miss Naomi? Will she love
Charles nodded warmly. Of course she will.”

Hearing his words, Yolanda beamed with joy.
just then, Charles’s phone dinged on the nightstand–a text message had come in
After tucking Yolanda in, Charles reached for his phone. It was a message from Teresa. [Please sign the agreement as soon as possible.] Charles didn’t reply. He figured he’d just sign it and have someone deliver the agreement to Teresa later.
As he put his phone away, Yolanda was already watching cartoons on her tablet. Kids‘ moods changed quickly–she was happily giggling as she hugged her tablet.
Charles looked at his daughter, his emotions mixed. Thinking back to how Teresa used to shower Yolanda with love, he couldn’t believe she would leave Yolanda all alone at school.
But he knew Yolanda’s words weren’t made up. He really had noticed Teresa acting differently these days.
After sending the message, Teresa fingered at the street corner for a while, not sure what to do next.
Since Charles didn’t reply, she didn’t send any more texts. But the divorce had been dragging on for too long.
Since he was busy with Yolanda at the hospital today, she decided she would talk to him about the divorce face–to–face tomorrow.
Yolanda’s words kept running through her mind, and not wanting her family to notice she was upset when she got home, Teresa called Wendy.

Chapter 113
Wendy invited her over, sent her the address, and Teresa drove straight there. When she arrived, Wendy had already ordered some snacks and a case of cold beer for delivery.
Since Teresa got married, the two of them hadn’t drunk together alone like this. After downing a bottle of beer, Teresa’s eyes brimmed with tears as she said, “I’m divorcing him.”
Wendy popped open another beer and handed it to her. “That’s great. Time to ditch that jerk and live your best life.”
Teresa laughed bitterly. “But I still feel a bit miserable.”
Wendy clinked her bottle against Teresa’s and smiled. “You’re doing better than before. Back in the day, you’d be crying by now.”
Teresa laughed. “True. From now on, I’m putting myself first.”
Wendy drank a whole bottle in one go. Seeing her drink so fiercely, Teresa asked with concern, “What about George? Has he tried to reach out to you?”
Wendy shrugged, unbothered. “Nope, not a word. He probably thinks I’ll go crawling back to him. But I’ve finally wised up.”
Teresa felt a sense of relief wash over her, and her mood lightened. The two of them drank a lot of beer and talked about everything.
After a few more drinks, Wendy grabbed Teresa’s phone and handed it to her. “Call Charles right now. Tell him you’re divorcing him, that you don’t want him anymore.”
Teresa shook her head. “Tomorrow. I’ll tell him face to face.”
But Wendy wouldn’t let it go. “No, do it now. Be tough and tell him you’re done.”
Teresa knew Wendy was tipsy, but she didn’t refuse and took the phone. She dialed Charles’s number.
The phone rang twice before someone picked up. It wasn’t Charles—it was Naomi. “Who’s calling?”
Teresa paused for a moment when she heard Naomi’s voice, but still asked, “Is Charles there?”
Naomi recognized Teresa’s voice and replied coolly, “Charles is helping me wash my underwear. If you need something, just tell me and I’ll pass on the message.”
Teresa snorted coldly. “No need.”
The call was on speaker, and Wendy heard Naomi’s voice too. She couldn’t hold back–she grabbed the phone and snapped, “Ms. Yates, all your effort to steal him?
“You’re just picking up the trash Teresa decided to throw out. Congrats! Keep it to yourself and don’t go dirtying up anyone else’s life.”
Wendy hung up immediately, not waiting for Naomi’s response.
Teresa stared at Wendy for a moment before giving her a big thumbs–up. “That’s why you’re the best.”
