When She Turns Her Back (Teresa and Charles) novel Chapter 140

Chapter 140

Troy noticed Zane was getting a bit loud, so he quickly crouched down, covered Zane’s mouth, and gave him a quick shhgesture.

Zane got the hint and nodded right away.

After letting go, Troy gave Zane a light pat on the head and said, Once I have got my stuff sorted out, I’ll take you to haunted houses. Not just one, but all kinds.

Zane shot Troy a look and grumbled, Mr. Hamilton, you’re always just talking big.

Troy clasped his hands together in front of him, shaking them a little. Come on, please.

Zane rolled his big, round eyes in thought, hesitated for a moment, and finally said, Alright, I guess.”

But then Zane blurted out, But Mr. Hamilton, Monica is super fierce, I want to be friends with her, but I’m too nervous to even talk to her.

Troy could tell right away that Zane was kind of scared of Monica. But Troy also knew that even though Monica seemed fierce, she was actually a wellbehaved and obedient kid.

Troy couldn’t help but think back to his younger days. If only he’d stood his ground and done what he really wanted before Teresa married Charles, maybe things would be different now.

There wouldn’t be all this mess to deal with.

But back then, Teresa was crazy about Charles, and Troy had no choice but to let her go.

If he’d known things would turn out like this, Troy would’ve put up a fight, no matter what.

So, Troy gently touched Zane’s cheek and said seriously, Listen, kid, if you want something, go for it. Don’t wait until you’re looking back and wishing you’d tried.

Troy was saying it to Zane, but really, he meant it for himself, too.

Zane nodded. Alright, I understand.

After gathering his courage, Zane hurried over to Aunt Teresa and Monica. Miss Sullivan?

Teresa stopped, turned around, and looked at Peter. She asked gently, What’s wrong, Zane?

Zane looked up at her. Miss Sullivan, I want to have dinner with you tonight.

Before Teresa could answer, Monica jumped in, Zane, my mom just called. She wants me and Aunt Teresa to go home for dinner.”

Zane looked lost. Huh?

Seeing him looking all clueless, Monica snapped, What’s with the huh? We’re not eating with you today. Next time, okay? There’ll be lots of chances.

With Monica being so fierce, Zane instinctively turned to look at Troy.

Troy wasn’t about to let this chance slip away. He shot Zane a look, nudging him to say something to Teresa.

Zane turned to Teresa again, pleading. Miss Sullivan, can’t you stay?

Monica couldn’t hold it in anymore and shouted at Zane, Zane, you’re so persistent. Like I said, we’re going home for dinner.

Zane instantly caved. Uh, okay, I guess.

Teresa saw that Monica was being a bit fierce and quietly said, Monica, talk to Zane nicely.

Monica just nodded and moved back next to Teresa.

Teresa crouched down in front of Zane, giving his ear a gentle ruffle. Zane, let’s have dinner together next time. I will treat you.

Zane nodded. Okay.

Saying that, Teresa stood up and glanced over at Troy, who was standing nearby. Mr. Hamilton, we’re heading home now. See you next time.

Troy wasn’t even angry anymore, but when Teresa spoke to him, for some reason, he just couldn’t bring himself to answer.

Right now, he really wanted to say see you next time, but it was like his mouth was sealed shut; he just couldn’t get the words out.

Teresa knew he wasn’t going to respond, so she didn’t push it. She took Monica’s hand and turned to leave.

After they were gone, Troy gave himself a frustrated slap. Finally, he looked down at Zane and grumbled, Man, you’re hopeless.

Zane shot back, Well, why didn’t you say anything? Miss Sullivan isn’t going to snap at you.

Troy snapped back, And Monica isn’t going to bite you, either?

Zane pouted, unable to win the argument, and grumbled, Hmph, I’m going to tell my dad you bullied me.

Teresa grabbed a cab back to the Sullivan Mansion. When she arrived at the gate, she was surprised to spot Charles’s car parked outside.

There were still two hours to go before dinner, and Yvonne and Theodore hadn’t come back yet. Howard and Linda weren’t home, either.

So when Teresa came in holding Monica’s hand, she saw Charles sitting on the couch, a cup of coffee on the coffee table in front of him, but he just sat there, not even touching it.

If the rest of the family were home, Charles probably wouldn’t even be allowed inside the Sullivan Mansion.

When Teresa carne in, Charles, who was leaning back on the couch and checking his phone, looked up and said, Back already?

Teresa led Monica into the living room and said, Monica, go upstairs and play for a while, okay? I need to talk to your uncle.

Monica didn’t really want to, but Teresa insisted, so she just went along with it.

Once Monica was upstairs, Teresa walked over to Charles, her annoyance clear. Charles, what are you even doing here?

Her tone was snippy, and one could totally see the annoyance on her face.

Charles put his phone down, acting all laidback. Grandpa asked me to come pick you up.

Teresa turned her head away and shot back, cold as ice, No need. I’m not going back with you tonight.

Charles stared at the side of her face, and for a second, he just spaced out.

After a moment, he finally cracked a faint smile and said, I found the marriage certificate.

That line really hit Teresa, stirring up all kinds of emotions. She whipped her head around, all excited. Where is it?
