Chapter 195
In the hospital room, Teresa leaned against the bedrail.

Leo had laid out the items he brought in one corner of the bed. After showing them all, he looked at Teresa expectantly, waiting for her to make a choice.
Seeing his enthusiasm, Teresa didn’t have the heart to dampen it. After some thought, she pointed to the small cake and said, “I’ll have a small cake.”
Hearing this, Leo quickly picked up the small cake and handed it to Teresa.
“Yvonne, anyone who loves cupcakes this much has got to be pretty sweet themselves,” Leo teased, a gentle smile spreading over his good–looking face.
Troy was off to the side, slowly peeling an orange with careful hands, as if worried he’d tear the skin.
Even though he focused on the orange, he kept sneaking glances at Teresa out of the corner of his eye.
Ever since last night, Troy had a feeling something was wrong with her. She’d been cold to him, but he just couldn’t figure out exactly what had changed.
Even now, with Léo here and Teresa wearing a smile, Troy still couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling. ‘Why does it still feel so weird?‘ he wondered.
‘Maybe it’s just because Teresa doesn’t really know Leo yet, Troy tried to reassure himself.

Teresa smiled at Leo’s joke and said, “Mr. Gilbert, you really know how to crack people up.”
Hearing her call him “Mr. Gilbert” made Leo arch an eyebrow. He winked at her and teased, “Yvonne, if you don’t mind, you can just call me Leo.”
Scooping up a bit of cake with her spoon, Teresa gave Leo a bright smile. “Alright.
When Troy heard her say “alright,” he lost control for a moment and punctured

the orange peel.
Leo quickly handed Teresa some tissues, then turned to Troy with a grin. Troy, what’s going on? You trying to tear that orange to pieces? Now you’ve splattered juice all over Yvonne.”
Only then did Troy set the damp, half–peeled orange aside.
He grabbed a couple of tissues to clean his hands, then glanced down at Teresa and asked, “Are you okay?”
Teresa tilted her face up to him, shook her head, and gave him a faint smile. “It’s fine, I’m not that much of a princess.”
Troy saw her smile and remembered how she’d just agreed to Leo’s suggestion.
‘Maybe she’s just not feeling well,‘ he consoled himself.
With that thought in mind, Troy finally let himself relax.
Seeing how lovey–dovey you two are, Leo couldn’t resist chiming in, “Yvonne, you’re a girl–of course you deserve all the pampering. But if Troy screws up, you can’t just go easy on him, you know. Guys need to get a little payback sometimes, or they’ll think the rules don’t apply to them.”
Troy shot Leo a sharp look. “Seriously, nobody asked for your opinion.”
Knowing he wouldn’t win going back and forth with Troy, Leo turned to Teresa and grinned. “Yvonne, honestly, with a guy like Troy, you can’t be too soft. He totally needs to be kept in check by you.”
Teresa watched the two guys joking around, putting on a smile just to keep the peace–but deep down, she could see right through it all. She really couldn’t be bothered to point it out anyway.
Besides, Wendy would show up soon, and then she wouldn’t need Troy hanging around here at all.

Chapter 195
Troy, seeing Leo couldn’t keep his mouth shut, glared at him and gave him a couple of playful swats.
Leo yelped dramatically and ducked behind Teresa for cover.
Worried Leo might accidentally bump into Teresa, Troy growled, “Come here.”
Leo pressed himself up against Teresa and shot back at Troy, “Make me.”
Troy rubbed his forehead, a hint of irritation flashing across his face.
Noticing this, Teresa jumped in to break the tension. “Leo, wanna play some Gomoku?”
Leo had actually brought a Gomoku set among all the stuff he’d shown earlier.
Wendy had texted that she’d need another hour before getting here.
So Teresa thought playing a game would kill some time while they waited.
Leo’s eyes brightened. “Oh, you’re on! I’m the champ at Gomoku–no one can beat me. Don’t come crying to me if you lose too Yvonne!”
Teresa gave him a hint of a smile. “I won’t.”
She wasn’t too shabby at Gomoku herself.
But truth be told, it had been ages since she’d last played.
Seeing Teresa bring up the game on her own, Troy just dropped the whole thing with Leo and moved on.
Leo wasted no time setting up the board.
Teresa took the white pieces, and Leo grabbed the black ones.

As the fourth round began, Troy quietly got up from the chair by the bed and took a seat beside Teresa, one seemed to notice.

Even though Gomoku seemed like just a casual little game, it wasn’t as easy as it looked when you really put your mind to it.
At first, Teresa and Leo were neck and neck, neither of them gaining the upper hand.
But by the second half, a single misplaced piece could cost you the whole game.
Just as Leo was about to win again, Troy suddenly reached over and wrapped his fingers around Teresa’s hand, guiding her piece onto the board in one smooth, intimate motion.
He leaned in so close that his lips brushed the tip of Teresa’s ear, his voice low and gentle as he murmured, “Put it here–this move’s the perfect strike.”
That silken voice sent a wild tremor fluttering straight to Teresa’s heart, leaving her nerves in chaos.
For that split second, she was thrown off entirely, her thoughts stumbling and breath caught in her chest.
Still, she hid everything behind a subtle smile, playing along as she replied softly to Troy, “That move…is brilliant.”
With just that single move, what looked like a hopeless dead end suddenly turned into a winning chance–Teresa’s pieces lined up in every direction, flipping the whole game on its head and catching Leo completely off guard.
