Teresa raised her voice at Charles, who remained cool and unfazed. “If I’d known my daughter would turn out like this, I would’ve choked her to death myself rather than ever let her grow up.”
Charles frowned, his tone icy. “That’s enough. She’s still just a kid.”
Watching Charles shield Yolanda like that, Teresa gave a mocking laugh. “You’ll regret this one day.”
Charles barely even blinked. “No, Teresa. You’re the one who’ll regret it.”
With that, Charles swept Yolanda up into his arms in one swift motion.
Teresa stood frozen in place, pain washing over her until she lost her balance and collapsed to the floor.
Yolanda, clinging to Charles’s shoulder, witnessed the whole scene of Teresa falling to the ground.
Charles heard the sound and instinctively started to turn, but Yolanda suddenly spoke up, “Daddy, can I have some tanghulu later?”
Charles steadied his daughter in his arms, his tone gentle. “Sure, I’ll get you some.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Teresa watched as Charles and Yolanda walked out of the hospital room, her heart shattering completely.
Back then, these two meant everything to her.
But in the end, it was them who ended up hurting her the most.
Teresa lay on the cold floor and thought to herself, ‘Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if I just died right here.’
She fell into an endless dream, where Charles and Yolanda kept searching for her.
Charles said, “I was wrong. Just forgive me this once. From now on, my heart belongs only to you.”
Yolanda pleaded, “Mommy, I know I was wrong. I’ll do whatever you say from now on, I swear I’ll listen to you, no matter what.”
But in the end, Teresa fought her way back to consciousness.
All she saw was the white ceiling above her and the steady beeping of medical equipment.
Then, a figure loomed over her.
Teresa turned her head and saw Troy.
He was looking at her with concern, his voice hoarse as he asked, “You’re awake?”
Teresa was a bit dazed. “How did I get here?”
Troy smiled at her. “I carried you.”
Teresa frowned, her words laced with annoyance. “Who asked you to carry me? What if you ended up getting hurt again, huh?”
As soon as the words slipped out, Teresa instantly regretted it–she couldn’t believe she’d just blurted that out.
“What was I thinking, saying something so easy to misinterpret? Teresa couldn’t help berating herself.
But Troy grinned at her, pure mischief in his eyes. “So, you’re worried about me, huh?”
Teresa turned her gaze to the window, deliberately changing the subject. “I need to go home.”
Troy’s grin grew wider. “From now on, wherever I am, that’s your home.”
Teresa’s face went beet red, and right at that moment, a quiet cough suddenly broke the silence in the hospital room
The unexpected sound gave her a real joht.
She spun around and realized it was Rose Hamilton
Rose greeted Teresa with a cheerful little wave and a big smile. Hi there—I’m Toy’s mother

Chapter 248
Teresa swallowed her nerves and managed a greeting, “Hello, Mrs. Hamilton.”
Rose looked Teresa up and down, nodding in approval. “You’re such a beauty. Absolutely stunning.”

Teresa wasn’t used to getting compliments like that–especially not when someone was so unabashedly generous with their praise like
Rose.
‘Honestly, what girl wouldn’t be happy to hear something like that?‘ Teresa thought to herself.
Teresa gave a small smile. “Thank you, Mrs. Hamilton.”
Rose waved a hand, grinning. “Oh, don’t bother being so polite–soon enough you’ll be calling me ‘mom‘ anyway.”
Teresa had no idea how to reply, so she glanced over at Troy for help.
Seeing her look his way, Troy just shrugged, playing innocent. “Hey, don’t look at me–I only told her about you, that’s it. I didn’t say anything else.”
Troy wore a look like none of this had anything to do with him.
Seeing him refuse to admit it, Teresa gave him a fierce glare–like she was daring him to keep pretending.
Troy just smiled at her, not saying a word.
Right then, Rose jumped in with a grin, “Son, future daughter–in–law, you two look amazing together! So, have you set a date for the wedding yet?”
Troy just kept smiling, his tone casual. “Mom, you can decide.”
When Teresa heard Troy’s words, she quickly stammered, “Mrs. Hamilton, actually, I-“”
She wanted to tell the truth, to say that she wasn’t even divorced yet.
But Rose didn’t give her a chance to finish. She cut her off with a laugh. “Oh, come on, calling me ‘Mrs. Hamilton‘ feels way too formal. Just take out your phone and show me your payment QR code–I’ll send you a fat red packet! After that, you can call me ‘Mom‘ straight
away.”
Troy jumped in with a grin, “Yeah, honestly, I’m all for that plan.”
Teresa suddenly felt like she needed to make a run for it–if she stuck around any longer, Rose actually might start sending money right then and there.
She hurriedly tossed aside the hospital blanket and blurted, “Uh, Mrs. Hamilton, my brother just called–he wants me home for dinner, so I’d better get going!”
Rose quickly chimed in, “Oh, don’t go running home by yourself! Here, take this rascal with you.”
n.roh,
As she spoke, she shot Troy a knowing look.
Troy caught the hint and immediately stood up, gently taking Teresa’s hand. “I’ll go with you.”
Teresa wanted to refuse, but after a moment’s hesitation, she decided against it.
”
Seeing that Teresa didn’t object, Rose grinned at Troy. “If you two end up having a great time, don’t even worry about coming back to keep me company. Just stay over at the Sullivan family’s place tonight.”
