Chapter 255
Troy held Teresa tightly, letting her cry it out in his arms.

He let her lean against his chest, his chin lightly touching the top of her head. His gaze and the ache in his heart were all for her.
He didn’t ask what had happened. Just being there for her was the greatest comfort he could give.
After Teresa finished crying, she felt a little better.
Thinking of Wendy, Teresa finally lifted her head from Troy’s arms and looked up at him. “Wendy is missing.”
Troy met her gaze, his voice gentle. “Yeah, I know. But Leo’s already out there looking for her.”
Teresa blinked in surprise. “Mr. Gilbert?”
Troy kept holding Teresa close, not showing any intention of putting her down. Honestly, Teresa seemed to have completely forgotten she was still in his arms.
Troy nodded. “Yeah, the one who wanted to meet up with Wendy? That’s Leo.”
Teresa frowned, a little confused. “Why though?”
Troy gave a low chuckle. “Well, what else? It’s all for love.”
Teresa mulled it over. She didn’t know Leo was into Wendy, or when he started crushing on her.
But if Troy said so, she figured there had to be something to it.
After thinking about it, she just gave a little nod. “Mm.”
Realizing she was still in Troy’s arms, Teresa gently eased herself out of his embrace.
Once she was steady on her feet, she turned to Troy. “I want to go find Wendy.”
He wasn’t mad at all; instead, he just smiled softly and, when she wasn’t looking, slipped his hand into hers.
He led her toward his car. “Come on, let’s go meet up with Leo. I think he might have already found Wendy.”
Troy opened the door for Teresa, motioning for her to take the passenger seat.
Teresa looked back at the car that had crashed into the little house. The front was completely wrecked, with random stuff and dust all
over it.
She lingered for a moment, a bit unwilling to let go. “The car…”
Troy helped her into the seat and buckled her in, then straightened up with a smile. “Don’t worry about it, I’ll buy you a new one next
time.”
Teresa wasn’t actually counting on Troy to buy her a new car. Right now, all she cared about was finding Wendy and making sure nothing bad had happened to her.
She just let it go, focusing on what mattered instead.
Once they were both in the car, Troy called Leo again.
The car was quiet, and Teresa could hear Leo’s voice on the line–hoarse and low.
He didn’t sound right at all.
Teresa’s heart leapt into her throat.
Troy sensed something was off too and didn’t ask anything else “Where are you now?”
Leo replied, “At Wendy’s place

Chapter 255
The whole drive over, Teresa was on edge.
When they got to Wendy’s apartment complex, Teresa practically ran into the elevator.
Troy stayed close behind her, worried she might trip.

When they reached the tenth floor, Teresa bolted out of the elevator and saw Wendy’s door wide open, with Leo standing right there.
From inside, she could faintly hear Wendy’s sobs.
Teresa’s heart sank, and she hurried over.
But when she got to the door, she stopped. She peeked inside and saw Wendy curled up in a corner of the couch, wrapped in a blanket. She was hugging herself, sobbing and shuddering, her eyes hollow, staring off into nothing–completely lifeless.
Teresa stepped inside and slowly made her way over to Wendy.
As she sat down on the couch, she saw Wendy’s hair in total disarray, with bruises all over her body, blood smeared on her lips, and her fingernails stained red.
Teresa couldn’t let herself imagine what had happened–let alone ask.
She just reached out tentatively, her hand gentle as she touched Wendy’s. Teresa softly called her name, “Wendy.”
Wendy jerked as if shocked when Teresa touched her, her whole body seized with another violent shudder. She glanced at Teresa with unfocused, vacant eyes, clearly not recognizing her at all. Driven by panic, she kept scooting backward, repeating over and over, “No, don’t come near me. Go away, go away.”
Teresa felt her chest tighten painfully at the sight. She squeezed Wendy’s hand, her voice gentle and soothing. “Wendy, it’s me, Teresa. I’m here–look at me, please. Just look at me.”
Wendy couldn’t process a word Teresa said. She shook her head wildly, pressing her hands hard over her ears, tears spilling down her cheeks
Teresa pulled her into a tight embrace, rubbing her back in a desperate attempt to comfort her, her words tumbling out in worry. “Wendy, what happened? Tell me, what happened?”
Wendy stayed silent, her breathing rough and harsh. Teresa was just about to loosen her hold when Wendy suddenly bit down hard on her shoulder.
Teresa felt a jolt of pain, but she gritted her teeth and held back any cry.
Wendy bit like she was trying to rip off a chunk of Teresa’s shoulder.
When Wendy finally let go, she yelled at Teresa, “You animal! You filthy animal!”
Tears streamed down Teresa’s cheeks as she watched Wendy like this.
Outside in the hallway, Troy arrived just in time and caught everything that was happening inside. He glanced at Leo, his face full of worry, and saw Leo looking seriously shaken and tense.
Troy stepped forward and gave Leo a reassuring pat on the shoulder, words unnecessary–the gesture said it all.
Leo turned to Troy, guilt and regret all over his face. “This is all on me. If I hadn’t messed up, George never would’ve hurt her like this.”
Troy opened his mouth, but no words came out. He didn’t know what to say.
Leo looked down, his voice heavy with regret. “I was too late. If I’d gotten here just a few minutes earlier, she wouldn’t be like this now.
Troy understood how Leo felt. He knew there was no point in saying anything more, so he just asked, “What now? What are you going
ta do?
Leo let out a long sigh. “I’ve already called Peyton. This case we have no choice but to hight it to the end
Troy nodded. “We have to shut down any rumors before they start. If this leaks out, Wendy will be the one who suffers the most.”
