Teresa stood in front of her car, hesitating for a few seconds. After a moment’s struggle, she clenched her jaw and forced herself into the driver’s seat.

With both hands clutching the steering wheel, her gaze grew so frosty, it felt like she could freeze the world around her.

Right then, she made up her mind.

She stomped on the gas with reckless abandon, sending her car hurtling straight toward Charles’s vehicle, not sparing a second thought about the consequences.

Teresa gritted her teeth, squeezing her eyes shut. Whatever happens, happens. If it costs me my life, so be it, she told herself.

No matter what might happen, at least in this moment, Teresa wasn’t going to give herself even the slightest chance to regret.

With that, she slammed her foot down hard on the gas pedal.

Even as the engine thundered beneath her, Teresa’s mind stayed uncannily calmso still it felt like nothing in the world could disturb her.

Meanwhile, Charles had only just slipped into the driver’s seat when he saw Teresa’s car charging straight at him, pedal to the metal, no hesitation.

As the gap between them quickly closed, Charles showed no intention of moving; he sat there like a statue.

He was betting on itbetting that Teresa wouldn’t actually go through with it, that she’d lose her nerve at the last second, that she cared about him too much to let anything happen to him.

With one hand on the steering wheel, Charles shut his eyes, bracing himself for whatever came next.

Naomi, who hadn’t even had time to settle into the front seat, felt her whole body tense as she watched the two of them risk it all.

Charles!Naomi’s terrified voice rang out, trembling and urgent.

At the sound of her cry, Charles’s eyes flew open on reflex.

As he caught sight of Teresa’s car barreling toward him faster and faster, his hands moved almost of their own accordhe wrenched the wheel aside, making way at the last possible moment.

The sharp swerve sent Naomi sprawling against the car door, her head bumping into the window with a heavy thud.

When the car finally stopped, Charles realized his hands were slick with sweat from gripping the steering wheel.

As soon as Charles heard Naomi’s pained gasp, he jolted awake and turned around quickly, his face filled with worry. Naomi, are you alright?

Naomi held her forehead; slowly sitting back up straight.

With a wince and a look of total confusion, she stared at Charles. Charles, what’s going on with you?

Charles unbuckled his seatbelt and, without thinking, almost reached out to touch Naomi’s face, but she turned away to avoid him.

When he realized Naomi was pulling away, it was like a sharp pain stabbed through Charles’s heart, and his fingers trembled just a little.

Finally, he silently pulled his hand back.

After a brief moment where their eyes met, Charley spoke up, guilt written all over his face. No, I just

Before he could finish. Naomi cut him off. Charles, is it really worth risking your life just to be stubborn?

Charles was full of regret, repeating softly, I’m sorry. I promise, it won’t happen again.

Nacimi turned away from Charles, her gaze dropping to her own fingers. She was quiel for a few seconds before finally saying, Charles, I think we should put the whole wedding thing on hold for now.”

She didn’t say she wanted to marry him, or that she didn’t just that she wanted to slow things down a bit.

Chapter 254

If something unexpected came up, Naomi could still choose to walk away.

But if nothing happened, maybe marrying Charles wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all.

Charles had money, looks, and power.

With a guy like him, she really had no reason to complain.

But for some reason, Naomi couldn’t help but feel that having only one man just wasn’t enough for her.

Her biggest wish was for every man to love her, to adore her, to treat her like a queen, and to fight over her endlessly.

When Charles heard Naomi suggest putting the wedding on hold, instead of feeling uneasy, he was filled with a deep sense of guilt.

To him, Naomi wanting to reconsider things just felt perfectly reasonable in that moment.

He didn’t pressure her for a decision. He simply replied in a gentle voice, Yeah.

Once they finished talking, Charles finally started the car and drove away.

Meanwhile, when Teresa didn’t feel the jarring crash she had braced herself for, she cracked her eyes open in surprise, breath catching as she realized she was still intact.

When she saw the road ahead was actually clear, she finally let up on the gas, her foot trembling as she tried to slow the car down.

But just as her speed began to drop, the car was already barreling toward a building, leaving her no time to react.

Panic shot through hershe slammed on the brakes with everything she had, but the car’s momentum was unstoppable. Despite her desperate attempt, the vehicle still lurched forward and slammed into the building.

A deafening crash rang out, and Teresa’s vision went blackshe felt like she might black out any second.

Luckily, she came out of it without a scratch.

It felt like all her organs had just been rattled around inside her.

Before she could react, she heard her phone ringing somewhere between the seats.

Teresa leaned down and awkwardly searched for it; by the time she finally grabbed her phone, the call had already hung up.

She’d thought for sure it was Wendy calling, but when she checked the screen, it turned out to be Troy.

Teresa was debating whether or not to call Troy back when, before she could decide, his number flashed on the screen again.

After thinking it over for a moment, she answered the call.

Troy’s voice burst out, tight with worry. Why didn’t you answer the phone?

You could hear it in his tonehe was definitely upset.

Teresa kept her eyes on the battered little house up ahead, her tone calm as she said, It’s nothing.

Troy pressed, Where are you?

Teresa ignored his question completely. Troy, I’m hanging up. I’ve got other things to handle,

By other things, what she really ineant was going to find Wendy

That only made Troy angrierhe practically shouted her full name. Teresa, are you seriously trying to get on my nerves right now?

Teresa didn’t respond. She just moved to hang up on him

But before she could hang up. Troy’s voice cut in, trying for a tough tone If you don’t tell me where you are right now, I’ll have someone find your locationjust wait, you’ll see how I deal with you

He might have tried to sound threatening, but honestly, there was zero bite behind his words
