After Teresa left, she rushed straight to the pharmacy at the entrance of the neighborhood.

She bought the morning–after pill, paid for it, and headed outside.

Just as she lifted the curtain to step out, she saw Charles standing right in front of her.

If Teresa hadn’t reacted fast enough, she would have run right into him.

Teresa, anxious and rushing, barely spared Charles a glance before trying to sidestep him and leave.

But Charles smoothly stepped into her path, unfazed. He lowered his voice, “Come home with me. Grandpa’s still waiting for you.”

Hearing those words, Teresa thought, ‘If this was the old me, maybe I would’ve cared. Maybe I would’ve actually listened to him.‘

But now, she told herself, ‘I’m done putting other people’s feelings first.

The only person that really mattered to her now was herself–and it was going to stay that way.

Teresa lifted her chin and shot Charles a chilly glare. “Joyacre Villa isn’t my home,” she said coldly.

Charles lowered his voice even further, a warning edge sharpening his tone. “I don’t want to force you, but you’d better not push my patience.”

Teresa didn’t so much as blink. Instead, she barked at him, “Get lost.”

With that, she didn’t care whether Charles moved or not–she simply swept around him and headed straight for Wendy Stone’s place.

But just as she took her first step, Charles suddenly seized her arm in a tight grip.

With his effortless strength, he pulled her right back to him.

The morning–after pill in Teresa’s hand tumbled to the floor as he dragged her back.

Charles spotted the thing that had dropped from Teresa’s hand. He shot her a glance, then, clearly curious, bent down to pick it up.

Teresa reached for it, trying to snatch it back, but with only one good hand, she just couldn’t win against him.

Charles picked up the pill box, scanned the full name on the label, and in that instant, the truth hit him.

Charles gripped the pill box tight, his eyes going cold as ice. He shot Teresa a freezing glare, his voice scratchy and low as he demanded, “What, you actually took this?”

‘Great, he’s jumping to conclusions, Teresa thought, catching that look on Charles’s face.

Not in the mood to explain, Teresa just shot back, “Yeah.”

Charles narrowed his eyes, his voice suddenly sharp. “Who was it for?”

Teresa ulted her head back, challenging him without a hint of hesitation. “What’s it to you?”

Charles’s dark eyes were fixed on her, unblinking. With every step he took, Teresa instinctively retreated until the tension between them grew razor–sharp.

She kept backing up until she was cornered against the wall, nowhere left to run. That was when Charles finally stopped, looming over her, his shadow swallowing her whole. His voice came out rough as he demanded, “Is it Troy? Hector? Or is there someone new now?*

Charley’s face twisted with pure contempt and mockery; he attacked her with every word, holding nothing back.

Teresa’s temper snapped as she shouted, “Charles, that’s enough! Stop with your wild guesses!”

But Charles wasn’t fazed by her anger He stepped in even closer, boxing her m, leaving her nowhere to turn.

He leaned down, his presence suffocating, crowding her agamist the wall.

Teresa curled up in the corner, too scared to lift her head, too drained to fight back. She was like a helpless lamb, trembling and waiting

for whatever came next.

Just then, she heard heavy, fast footsteps growing closer.

Teresa recognized them right away—it was Troy.

Her heart started pounding, hope exploding inside her.

She knew–help was finally here.

Troy strode up out of nowhere, marched straight over to Charles, and without a second thought, yanked Teresa away from his looming

presence.

He planted himself right in front of her, blocking her completely from Charles’s view.

Troy stared Charles down, arrogance and disdain flashing in his eyes. “And what, exactly, do you want her to answer?” he shot back.

Charles recognized Troy was baiting him, but he showed no sign of annoyance–he just smirked and said, “You sure move fast, Mr. Hamilton. I haven’t even divorced her yet, and you’re already lining up to pick up after me?”

Troy just grinned, totally unfazed. “You got it. I’ve been waiting for this moment.”

Unlike those other spoiled rich kids, Troy honestly couldn’t care less what people say about him.

Charles’s face went stiff for a moment when he heard Troy’s reply, but then he scoffed, “So what if I just decide not to divorce her?”

Before Troy could react, Teresa made to step forward from behind him.

But Troy didn’t give her the chance–he casually pulled her right back behind him.

Then he flashed Charles a lazy grin and said, “Then I’ll just play the side guy, her lover on the sly. Honestly, being all official is boring anyway—I’d rather have some fun and try out new things with my girl…”

Charles had never met anyone like Troy–utterly shameless, with no sense of decency or boundaries whatsoever.

Right now, fury was building in his chest like a heavy weight, nearly suffocating him.

Charles shot Troy a withering glare and snapped, “She just had her wounds cleaned–are you really in that much of a rush to push her until she breaks?”

Troy’s face went cold. “Save your fake concern. I care about her a hell of a lot more than you ever will.”

Charles sneered, “Oh yeah? If you care so much, why’d you let her go out alone to get the morning–after pill?”

Troy couldn’t care less about explaining. He just replied flatly, “You don’t know the half of it, so don’t run your mouth.

Teresa didn’t want to hang around any longer–her mind was on Wendy Stone, and worry was gnawing at her.

She impatiently tugged Troy’s sleeve and said, “Let’s just go. He’s not worth the trouble.”

With that, Teresa turned and started walking down the steps.
