Teresa searched her memory, genuinely coming up empty–she didn’t recall ever making Troy any kind of promise.
Troy looked at her, clearly entertained rather than annoyed. Leaning close with a sly smile, he teased, “Doesn’t matter if you remember or not. I remember, and that’s enough for me.”
Teresa studied his expression, sensing he wasn’t lying. Still, she pulled her brows together in confusion and asked, “Troy, I really don’t remember any of that. What if you’ve got the wrong person?”
Troy leaned even closer, his forehead touching hers as he whispered, “Then let’s just go with it. You’re the only one I want anyway.”
As he spoke, his warm breath brushed softly against her face.
Teresa stood there in a daze, her eyes growing unfocused as she stared at Troy’s face.
He was so close, his features blurred right in front of her.
His face became a hazy outline in her vision, and just then, that odd, déjà vu feeling surged up from somewhere deep inside.
But where on earth had she seen him before?
Teresa wasn’t sure, but one thing she did know for certain–she’d never made any promises to Troy.
But worried about Wendy Stone, Teresa didn’t waste any more time on it.
Meanwhile, Charles returned to Joyacre Villa without Teresa.
He was still stewing over the fact that Troy had taken her away.
Before heading inside, he took a moment to compose himself.
When Charles arrived at Joyacre Villa, Sharon already had dinner ready and waiting for him.
As soon as he heard the car outside, Richard set his newspaper aside and slipped on his glasses.
He glanced toward the entrance, expecting more, but saw only Charles coming in by himself.
Sharon had just finished setting down the last dish, straightened up, and looked over curiously–peering behind Charles to see if anyone else was with him.
Not seeing Teresa anywhere, Sharon frowned slightly and asked, “Mr. Logan, is Teresa not coming home with you tonight?”
Charles shrugged off his coat and replied, “Yeah, she’s working late.”
Richard’s face darkened as he took off his glasses and set them down with a thud. “Working late? Or is it she doesn’t want to come home?”
Charles hung up his coat and turned to face Richard. “She’s really working late.”
Richard let out a frustrated sigh, thinking to himself, ‘No matter what I say, if Teresa’s not coming home, then that’s just how it is.
Even though the dinner table was loaded with all kinds of delicacies, Richard barely tasted anything at all.
Halfway through the meal, Richard set down his chopsticks, looked up at Charles–who was absently poking at his food–and asked, “What do you think about what Teresa did this time?”
Charles kept his head down, but his fingers trembled faintly around his chopsticks as he heard Richard’s question
After a brief pause, Charles replied quietly, “It’s all in the past now.
Richard frowned deeper and asked, “So what about moving forward? Are you still thinking of having another kid?
Charles set his chopsticks down and met Richard’s gaze. Thaven’t really figured it out yet. Even if we go for a second child, it’ll have to wait until she’s back to full health

He’d never told Richard that Teresa might have a hard time conceiving again due to complications from her last procedure.
Richard let out a heavy sigh. “If I’d known she’d be like this, I never would’ve tried to match you two up in the first place.”
Charles had had enough. He grabbed a napkin to wipe his mouth, then pushed back his chair and stood up. “Grandpa, I’ve finished. I’m going upstairs,” he said, making it clear he didn’t want to keep talking.
Upstairs, Charles switched on the bedroom light.
The room was nothing like it had been when Teresa was living here.
When she was around, the bed was always dressed in bright, colorful sheets. Now, the bedding was forever just black, white, or gray.
Some of Naomi’s belongings sat awkwardly in the room, feeling completely out of place.
Charles opened the drawer and pulled out those finalized divorce papers.
Even though he was the one who set all the terms, he still found himself flipping through them yet again.
Aside from that two billion yuan in compensation, Teresa hadn’t asked for a single thing.
No fight for custody, no house, no car–nothing at all.
After everything they’d been through, all she ended up with from their marriage was just those two billion yuan.
Honestly, the compensation he’d offered her wasn’t even that much.
What really hit him, though, was that the woman who once put him above everything else was actually going through with the divorce.
She’d even cut ties with her own family for him.”
And now, she was the one who’d asked for the divorce, and the cooling–off period was almost up.
As Charles thought about all this, a strange ache twisted in his chest.
just then, his phone started ringing.
Charles glanced down and saw it was Naomi calling.
He picked up, and Naomi’s anxious voice came through, “Charles, Yolanda has a fever.”
As soon as Charles heard those words, any trace of sadness vanished. He jumped to his feet and rushed out without a second thought. At the villa next door, Naomi was sitting with Yolanda resting her head in Naomi’s lap, while Ava paced nervously nearby, worrying herself sick.
Charles hurried over and gently lifted Yolanda into his arms.
Naomi got up as well, following right on Charles’s heels as he headed outside.
Ava automatically tried to follow, but Naomi caught on and quickly said, “Mom, you don’t need to come. Charles and I will Naomi added a quick wink for Ava as she said this.
Ava got the message, leaned in, and whispered, “Just make sure that kid doesn’t say anything dumb.”
Naomi gave Ava’s hand a reassuring pat. “It’s fine, Mom. Don’t
worry
go
instead.”
Hearing that, Ava finally let out a relieved sigh.
Once they arrived at the hospital, Charles handed Yolanda over to the doctor.
After a thorough examination, they found out she had a bacterial infection.
The doctor ordered an IV and some meds Naomi stayed with Yolanda while she got her infusion, and Charles went to handle the paperwork and pick up the prescriptions.
Since Charles wasn’t familiar with the hospital procedures, he actually got stapped at by the older lady working the payment window
