Chapter 264
As Naomi walked over, she picked up on the little moves Charles was making.
When he angled his phone screen away, she instinctively cast a glance downward.

Naomi didn’t get a clear look, but she could already guess what he was up to. ‘He’s probably calling Teresa, she thought to herself.
After Charles turned off his phone screen, he replied to Naomi, “It’s nothing, really.”
He followed up right away, “What about Yolanda? Is she doing any better?”
Naomi gave him a warm smile. “Yeah, she’s already asleep. When I saw you hadn’t come back, I figured I’d come out and see if you were okay.”
Charles just nodded in response and stayed quiet.
Just then, his phone screen lit up.
Almost instantly, he picked it up.
But when he realized it was only a push notification, disappointment flashed across his face.
Naomi caught the whole thing. No beating around the bush–she just looked at Charles and asked directly, “Are you talking to Teresa?”
Charles didn’t want Naomi to take it the wrong way. After a brief pause, he shook his head and said, “No.”
At that, Naomi’s brows knit together.
She saw it all, yet it never occurred to her that Charles would outright lie to her.
All the irritation she’d felt toward Charles suddenly shifted into fear.
Out of all the men around her, apart from Troy, only Charles really had status and power.
Naomi liked being adored by men, sure–but when it came down to choosing who to be with, she wasn’t some clueless girl. She knew exactly what she was doing.
With that thought, Naomi took a step closer and slipped her arm through Charles’s, her voice gentle as she said, “New Year’s Day is almost here, and the school gave us a few days off. Why don’t you come home with me to Ternton and visit my dad? Will you?”
Charles put his phone away and nodded. “Sure.”
He never hesitated when Naomi asked him for anything.
Seeing him agree, a deep smile blossomed on Naomi’s face.
She couldn’t help but think, ‘I really worry too much. Charles is already completely under my control
Back in the hospital room, Charles pulled out his phone again and took a picture of Yolanda, sending it straight to Teresa.
In the photo, Yolanda was lying on the cramped hospital bed, her cheeks ghostly pale. Even asleep, her brows were knit in distress.
He sent the picture, watching the screen for a response–but Teresa never answered. ‘Nothing… not even a read receipt, Charles thought, a faint sense of frustration rising inside him.
Back then, Teresa used to handle anything about Yolanda herself–she never let anyone else step in.
But now

Chapter 264
Watching Leo skillfully make the porridge, Teresa suddenly recalled something Troy once said.
Troy had said that Leo had a crush on Wendy.
But now, after everything that happened. Teresa wondered if Leo would still have a thing for Wendy.
Noticing how exhausted Teresa was, Troy gently guided her to the couch and helped her sit down.
He tucked a small blanket around her, then fondly patted her head. “I’ll go see what Leo’s up to.” Troy murmured.
Teresa nodded, sinking into the sofa, her eyes closing before she even realized–and soon, she was fast asleep.
She had barely fallen asleep when Wendy’s voice called out, “Teresa.”
Teresa woke up at once and quickly made her way to the bedroom.
The only light came from a small bedside lamp, leaving the rest of the room in shadow.
Teresa sat down by the bed and reached for Wendy’s hand. “I’m here, Wendy. I’m right here,” she whispered softly.
Wendy clung to Teresa, panic in her voice. “The medicine–where is it? Where’s the medicine?”
Teresa fished the pillbox out of ho
pocket, but before she could even hand it over, Wendy snatched it away in a rush.
She didn’t wait for any instructions–Wendy just swallowed both pills at once, desperate and determined.
After swallowing, she grabbed the water cup from the nightstand and gulped down two big mouthfuls.

Setting the cup down, she stared at Teresa in panic. “Teresa, why can’t I taste the medicine? Did I swallow it or not? Maybe you should buy me another one, just in case?”
Teresa understood exactly what Wendy was anxious about. She steadied herself and squeezed Wendy’s hand, reassuring her, “Wendy, you took it, I promise. Don’t stress out, okay? Trust me, nothing’s going to happen.”
Slowly, Wendy started to calm down. She nodded, saying softly, “Okay.”
Just then, there was a knock at the door. From outside, Troy called out, “Teresa, Peyton’s here.”
At his words, Teresa called back, “Alright, I got it:”
She glanced worriedly at Wendy. “Do you want to go out and see Mr. Reterson?”
Wendy paused for a second, then finally mustered up the courage and said, “Yeah… let’s go see him.”

Teresa draped a coat over her shoulders and helped her out of the bedroom.
Peyton was already sitting on the couch, while Leo was pouring him some water. Troy stood nearby, explaining something to him.
The moment the door opened, Troy fell silent.
Teresa guided Wendy over to the couch, and Troy and Leo instinctively stepped aside, giving them space.
Teresa was about to step away, thinking Wendy might want a moment alone with Peyton, but Wendy squeezed her hand tight, giving her a pleading look not to leave.
So, Teresa stayed by her side.
Peyton asked Wendy to explain what had happened. After hesitating for a few seconds, she finally started to talk.
That day, she’d gotten herself ready to go out, but just as she stepped out of the elevator, George cut her off
Wendy cried out for help, but George forced her right back into the elevator.
The elevator headed straight back up to Wendy’s apartment.
George fished out the keys from Wendy, unlocked the door, and yanked her side.
Once the door clicked shut, he started bombarding Wendy with questions,
