Even after they stepped outside the bar, Troy never let go of Teresa’s waist. Teresa was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t even realize he was still holding her.

It wasn’t until Troy opened the car door that Teresa snapped back to reality. She took a step back and said, “Mr. Hamilton, thank you for tonight.”

Troy could tell something was on her mind, but he didn’t push. He leaned in closer, his eyes level with hers, and gave her a small smile. “You keep saying thanks. Isn’t that a bit distant between us?”

Teresa took another step back, her back pressing against the car. She looked at him warily. “What do you want?”

Troy straightened up and said, “How about you sleep with me tonight?” His expression was serious, not a joke at all.

Teresa felt flustered. “I can agree to anything but that,” she said quickly.

Troy looked at her and said, “Then how about joining me for a dinner?”

Knowing she owed him, Teresa nodded. “Okay”

Troy chuckled softly, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “Leo was right—if one wants a woman to say yes, one has to ask for something outrageous first.”

Teresa realized she’d been played. She frowned, saying, “Troy, you…”

Troy quickly lowered his head to meet her gaze, the smile still present in his eyes. “Are you upset?”

Teresa turned her head away, not answering.

Troy laughed, his eyes full of tenderness. “You look so cute when you smile, I can’t help but want to steal a kiss. As he spoke, he leaned in toward her.

His sudden closeness made Teresa’s heart race, and she quickly turned her head, pulling away. She murmured, “Troy, can we go back now?”

There was a pleading note in her voice, and it made Troy’s heart melt. He straightened up, putting some space between them. “Let me take you home,” he said softly.

Teresa shook her head. “No, I’ll just grab a cab.” Without another word, she hailed a cab, and the car sped off.

Troy watched as the cab disappeared into the night, a faint smile tugging at his lips and his gaze turning soft and gentle.

In the cab, Teresa sat by the window, gazing at the towering buildings and the bustling crowd outside.

Not far away, a giant screen on the mall was playing an ad. Naomi appeared on the screen, playing the piano.

Her curly hair cascaded down her back, her makeup flawless, and her long red dress accentuated her slender figure. She smiled subdy, a perfect image of grace and beauty.

People stopped and stared, their eyes filled with envy.

Teresa had to admit, Naomi was truly stunning everywhere she went, she caught everyone’s attention. Gentle, sophisticated, and blessed with a perfect appearance, Naomi was the kind of woman many others envied

Teresa knew she couldn’t compare to her, but it still hurt. Her marriage to Charles had been so hard–won, yet in the end, she lost it. Even her only daughter slipped through her fingers.

Still, she picked up anyway, and heard Cedric Judd on the other end. “Teresa?”

Recognizing his voice, Teresa quickly said, “Hi, Professor Judd, this is Teresa.”

Cedric sounded pleased. “I finally managed to reach you. I wanted to ask, are you planning to apply for grad school?”

Teresa hesitated for a moment. She was about to say no, but she didn’t want to lie to herself. “Yes,” she replied.

Cedric pressed on, “Have you ever thought about applying to be my PhD student?”

“Professor Judd, I’d love to be your student, but I’m just afraid… Teresa trailed off, hesitant, worried that she might disappoint him.

Cedric chuckled. “Well, the fact that you’re considering it is great. As long as you’re thinking about it, there’s a chance for you. The application deadline is less than three months away–do you feel confident?”

Back in college, she’d graduated first in her class. Teresa replied, “Professor Judd, I am. I’ll do my best.”

Cedric replied, “Alright, I’ll be waiting to hear your good news. I’ll keep a spot open for you.”

After making the decision to continue her studies, Teresa called Hector. “Hector, I’ve decided to go for grad school,” she said.

Hector, surprised and happy, responded, “Congratulations, Teresa. I’m really happy for you.”

Teresa, with a red nose, said, “I’ll work hard to rise above, to fight against all the unfairness.”

Hector replied, “Just be yourself. You’re already outstanding. You don’t need to worry about what others think.”

Teresa’s voice trembled. “Thank you, Hector.”

The next morning, Teresa headed to Joyacre Villa early. She had already made breakfast before Yolanda woke up.

As she finished setting the table, she heard Sharon’s voice at the door. “Mr. Logan, Ms. Yates, you’re back.”
