When She Turns Her Back (Teresa and Charles) novel Chapter 98

Chapter 98

After carrying Teresa upstairs, Charles gently laid her on the bed and tucked her in.

He brought her some fever meds and a cup of warm water. Then he sat by her side, watching as she took the medicine.

Once she finished, he took the glass from her and said, Let’s talk.

Teresa’s head was still pounding. Leaning against the headboard, she looked at Charles and asked, About what?

I’m going on a business trip this weekend,Charles said.

His words were clear. He wanted Teresa to take care of Yolanda.

But even if Teresa caught on, she just played dumb.

Charles, you don’t have to report to me about your plans. I’ve never tried to keep tabs on you,Teresa said.

There was a time when she longed for it, even if she knew it was just wishful thinking.

But eventually, she stopped letting herself dwell on those hopes.

She thought, Charles hardly ever came home. So why would he keep me updated about everything he did?

I need you to stay home and take care of Yolanda this weekend. I’ll be back on Sunday,Charles said, cutting to the chase.

Seeing how straightforward he was with his request, Teresa didn’t overthink it. She just assumed he really had to go on a business trip.

After all, he was the CEO of the Logan Group. There was always a ton of stuff on his plate.

It made sense that he’d need to travel every now and then.

As for the weekend, Teresa had both days off, and she didn’t have to work or be on call,

After hesitating for a moment, Teresa nodded. Okay.

With Charles off on his business trip and Naomi gone, Teresa could only look after Yolanda.

Teresa thought to herself, I’ll just do what’s expected of me. That’s enough.’

Seeing Teresa agree, Charles felt relieved. Get some rest. I’ll go check on Yolanda.

Teresa didn’t reply. She just slipped under the covers.

Once she lay down, Charles gently tucked her in and tidied her hair.

Teresa instinctively closed her eyes. It felt unreal that Charles was being so gentle.

But the places he’d touched still tingled, a burning reminder that none of this was a dream.

When Charles stepped into Yolanda’s room, she was sprawled out on her bed, on a video call with Naomi.

Neither of them was saying much. Each was just busy with their own stuff.

Naomi was tending to her sick mom on her side of the call, while Yolanda had a second tablet propped up, watching cartoons.

When Charles pushed the door open, Yolanda spotted him right away. Dad

Yolanda reached out with both arms, wanting a hug

Charlesheart just melted. In a few quick steps, he picked her up and sat her on his lap.

On the other end of the video call, Naomi was talking to her mom, but Charles didn’t pay much attention. He leaned down and said to Yolanda, Yolanda, I’m heading to the neighboring state this weekend to visit Mrs. Yates.

Yolanda looked up at him Dad, can I go too?

Charles rubbed her little cheek. You’re still not feeling well. Let’s wait until you’re better, okay?

Yolanda’s face fell. She pouted, looking all sad and disappointed.

Charles lowered his voice, trying to cheer her up. Your Mom is going to stay with you at Joyacre Villa this weekend. Once you’re feeling better and your tummy doesn’t hurt anymore, I will take you out to play.

Yolanda kept her head down, silent as ever, still looking all upset.

Charles coaxed her gently. If you’re good, I will grant you one more wish.

Yolanda’s eyes lit up as she looked up at him. Anything?

Charles nodded. “Yes.

can make a request.

Yolanda instantly perked up, hugging Charles’s arm. Can I make a request now?

Charles put on a stern face. Let’s see how you behave first. If you’re good, then

Yolanda felt a bit disappointed, but she knew exactly what she wanted to ask for.

Dad, I’ll be good, so you and Miss Naomi have to come back soon, okay?Yolanda said, her voice soft and hopeful.

Alright,Charles replied.

Charles headed out from Joyacre Villa on Friday night.

That night, Teresa was still feeling weak, but she ended up sleeping on the couch in Yolanda’s room so she could look after Yolanda.

The next day, her fever broke, and she felt a bit better.

After having breakfast with Yolanda, Teresa decided to take her out for a stroll.

Recently, a lot had happened, and Yolanda’s attitude toward Teresa kept swinging back and forth.

When Teresa suggested they go out for a walk, Yolanda didn’t object, but she wasn’t exactly thrilled either. She was just tagging along like it was some chore she had to get through.

No matter what was going on in Yolanda’s mind, Teresa didn’t let it bother her. She just did what was expected of her.

After hanging out at the park for over an hour, Teresa swung by the supermarket with Yolanda.

When they finally made it back to Joyacre Villa, it was already close to ten in the morning.

Teresa wanted to make a nutritious meal for Yolanda, so she started prepping in the kitchen right away.

At eleven o’clock, her phone rang.

Glancing down, she saw it was Sylvia, an old college friend.

When Teresa was pregnant with her second child, Sylvia was the doctor who performed the procedure for her.

Seeing Sylvia’s name on the screen, Teresa couldn’t help but think about the baby who never got to come into the world.

Back then, she actually thought having a second baby would be enough to make Charles stay.

Now, looking back at herself from those days, she couldn’t help but laugh at how naive she’d been.

When she picked up, Sylvia said. Teresa, I’m arriving in Riverdale this afternoon. Would you like to have a meal together?

Teresa said yes without a second thought. Sure, I’ll handle it.”

Normally, that would’ve been the end of the conversation

But Sylvia kept pausing, like she wanted to say something but stopped herself. Teresa couldn’t help but ask, What’s up?

Sylvia let out a sigh. Teresa, when I was at the gynecology ward earlier, I think I saw Charles there.
