Once they stepped into the kids‘ section, Teresa went on a shopping spree, grabbing all sorts of outfits for Yolanda.

Sylvia couldn’t help but say, “You’re always spoiling your daughter. Honestly, you’d be better off spending some of that energy on yourself.”

Teresa just gave a faint smile. “It’s just this one time. Who knows when I’ll get another chance to shop for her?”

Sylvia knew there was no changing Teresa’s mind, so she just stuck with Teresa and kept her company.

After picking out several large bags of clothes, Teresa said it was time to pay.

The sales clerk sorted everything and said, “That’ll be 30 thousand dollars.”

Teresa was momentarily stunned, but she didn’t say anything.

This kids‘ section was part of a luxury brand. The items were really nice. But they were also really expensive.

During those years with Yolanda, Teresa would often come here to shop for her. Sometimes she’d spend a few thousand, other times it’d be tens of thousands.

She didn’t mind the price at all.

Besides, Charles had set her up with a bank card and made sure to deposit money into it every month, just so she could take good care of Yolanda.

At first, she used to check the balance, but Charles was so generous. He’d drop 300 thousand dollars in there at a time, way more than she could ever spend.

After a while, she stopped checking the balance altogether.

Sylvia was shocked by the price, but then she thought, ‘It makes sense. They’re Charles’s family. Of course, everything they use is top- shelf. Anyway, Charles has money to burn.

Teresa rummaged through her purse, pulled out her bank card, and handed it over to the clerk. “The PIN is 990824,” she said.

The clerk swiped the card, but the machine beeped and flashed. “Payment failed.”

Teresa heard the message and was momentarily stunned.

The clerk knew Teresa well and was sure she could afford it, so when the card didn’t go through, she was just as shocked.

Sylvia looked completely lost. “What’s going on?” she asked.

The clerk checked the card again and then explained to Teresa, “Ms. Sullivan, your card has been frozen.”

Teresa frowned, confusion flickering across her face. “How could that happen?” she muttered.

The clerk double–checked and then said with certainty. “Ms. Sullivan, the card is definitely frozen.”

Teresa stood there, stunned for a long moment before finally saying to the clerk, “Could you please hold onto these for a bit? I need to step outside and make a call”

With that, she pulled Sylvia along and left the kids‘ section.

Once they reached the stairwell, she didn’t hesitate to call Charles.

She thought the call might not go through, but to her surprise, he answered right away.

“What’s wrong” Is Yolanda feeling sick again?” Charles asked, worry clear in his voice.

But Teresa didn’t answer his question. Instead, she cut to the chase. “Your bank card is frozen”

Charles was momentarily stunned when he heard this, and then he remembered the last thing he’d asked Liam to do.

He had indeed ordered the card to be frozen.

He didn’t explain. After a brief silence, he asked Teresa, “What do you want to buy?”

Teresa was about to ask what was up with the frozen card, but seeing Charles’s attitude, she could tell he was in on it.

She bit back the question she wanted to ask.

Right then, Charles cut in, “Let me send you the money.”

Teresa was pissed off when she heard that, but she just didn’t have the energy to fight him anymore. “No need,” she said.

With that, she hung up on him without a second thought.

Sylvia stood off to the side, listening in on their conversation. Even if she wasn’t

n’t in the loop, she could still figure out what was going on.

She shot Teresa a glare and demanded, “That scumbag! After all this, you’re seriously still not divorcing him?”

Teresa said quietly, her voice rough, “Soon.”

Sylvia was fuming. “That jerk! He spends millions on fireworks for his mistress’s birthday, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. He throws away tens of millions on gifts and surprises.

But when it comes to buying your daughter clothes that cost a few thousand, you have to beg him? I can’t believe it.”

Teresa was definitely disappointed and hurting, but she’d grown numb to it after all these years, so it didn’t really faze her anymore.

“Sylvia, I’ll just forget about buying them. He’s not worth your anger,” Teresa said.

Sylvia was fuming. “I honestly wish I could strangle that scumbag.”

Teresa squeezed her hand and said, “Let it go. He’s not worth it.”

It wasn’t the first time something like this had happened.

If she let every little thing get to her, Teresa figured she’d be drowning in resentment by now.

Sylvia felt bad for Teresa. “You threw away your future for that jerk, and look at what it’s done to you. You were top of the year when you graduated, but now you’re the one struggling the most. After all these years, you’re still just a regular doctor.”

Even Sylvia, who’d only been an average student, was now a chief OB doctor, while Teresa, who used to be the star of the class, was….

Teresa didn’t want to talk about it. She said to Sylvia, “I’ll catch up on my studies.”

Sylvia was sure Teresa would get her life back on track, but she couldn’t help thinking, ‘Who’s going to make up for those five years Teresa lost to her marriage?‘

In the end, Teresa and Sylvia headed back to the kids‘ section together. The clothes Teresa had picked out were still waiting at the register.

The sales clerk saw her return and came over to greet her.

Teresa gave her an apologetic look and said, “Sorry, about those items from earlier…”

Before Teresa could say she didn’t want them, a deep, commanding voice called out from behind her, “Wrap them all up.”
