Chapter 13
James searched for a full day and night. Even helicopters were deployed before he finally found Kate by a water pool.
When he ran over, just one look brought rolling tears to his eyes.
Kate was covered in bruises, her eyes tightly closed and face deathly pale. If not for the slight rise and fall of her chest, you couldn’t
tell she was still alive.
He brought Kate to the best hospital for treatment.
Walking past a certain hospital room, he saw Derek inside feeding medicine to Ashley. He burst in demanding, “Did you two do this to Kate? Derek, how can you be so heartless!”
Derek remained unmoved, saying flatly, “She deliberately kidnapped Ashley, trying to kill both Ashley and the baby. I just gave her a small punishment. There’s a water pool below that cliff – she wouldn’t die. This way she won’t dare do such heinous things again.”
James looked at Derek with the most ridiculous, contemptuous expression.
Then he turned and left.
After watching over Kate for two days and nights, she finally woke up.
James got the full story of what happened that day from her, and rage immediately surged in his heart.
“Kate, don’t worry. I’ll definitely help you get justice for this.”
That evening, James pushed Kate in a wheelchair to the corridor for some air.
They happened to run into Derek and Ashley walking hand in hand. Derek was gazing tenderly at Ashley’s belly, his eyes full of deep
affection.
“Ashley, I’m so grateful I saved you that day. If something had happened to you and the baby, I don’t know what I would have done…”
Ashley casually turned her head and spotted Kate on the other side.
She smiled meaningfully and deliberately asked, “But Kate fell off that cliff and her fate is probably still unknown. Don’t you worry
about her at all?”
He was definitely a little worried.
But Derek hesitated, then said, “Nothing to worry about. She brought it all on herself.”
Kate felt her head buzzing. She could barely stand and gently tugged at James’s sleeve. “Let’s go back.”
“Okay.”
James looked at her with gentle pity.
That night, Derek came to Kate’s room, sneaking in while James was out.
“Kate, are you feeling better?” He’d been worried about her for several days.
But Kate looked at him with nothing but disgust and hatred. “Get out! I don’t want to see you!”

Chapter 13
Derek was slightly stunned. “I’m not even holding it against you for kidnapping Ashley, so why are you mad at me? Kate, I just wanted to punish you a little. I never meant to actually kill you…”
Right, he just wanted to give her a “small” punishment.
So he never thought about whether she might have an accident falling off the cliff, whether she’d definitely land precisely in the water pool.
