Chapter 15
Days passed smoothly and peacefully.
Kate was blessed with twins – a boy and a girl which drove their father absolutely wild with joy. He chartered an entire luxury cruise ship to celebrate.
All the guests were envious.
“Mr. Sullivan and his wife have such a great relationship. Look at this extravagance – he really treasures his wife.”
“And now they’ve got twins, boy and girl too. Talk about hitting the jackpot! Mrs. Sullivan is living the dream!”
Kate and James held hands, smiling as they accepted their guests‘ congratulations.
Glancing sideways at the man beside her and his warm, spring–like smile, Kate felt her heart burn with warmth.
This happiness had come so many years late.
So long, so very long that she’d almost thought it would never come in this lifetime.
Fortunately, what’s meant to leave can’t be kept, and what’s meant to come will arrive eventually. She had finally taken hold of her beloved’s hand.
From now on, she would never let go.
– Years later.
–
The two little ones had grown into teenagers.
–
The power couple Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan now had gray hair and wrinkles, but one thing remained unchanged – their burning devotion
to each other.
One day while picking up the kids from school, Kate felt like someone was following them.
She turned around but saw nothing.
That evening she mentioned it to James, who took it seriously and personally accompanied her to pick up the kids the next day.
“Someone really is following us…” James said seriously, catching a glimpse of a raggedly dressed man from the corner of his eye.
The figure was tall but deeply hunched over, with half–gray hair that made his age hard to determine.
What especially bothered James was how this man’s gaze kept following Kate closely,
“Let’s walk faster.” He took his wife’s hand, intertwining their fingers.
Passing through the market, Kate wanted to buy some quail eggs. When paying, she froze. “You…”
“Twenty dollars and twenty cents. How would you like to pay, ma’am?” The aged woman’s face smiled ingratiatingly – it was Ashley. Seeing Kate, she showed no particular reaction, but asked if she’d like to buy another box of quail eggs since they were acquainted.
Kate paid with a complicated expression.

Chapter 15
Without a word, she pulled James away.
After walking for two minutes, they heard a crashing sound behind them. Turning back, they saw Ashley’s stall had been overturned.
It was the same man who’d been following them who’d done it.
The man flipped the stall then seemed to curse at Ashley, making her cry,
Just as he was about to turn around, James stepped forward and covered Kate’s eyes. “Don’t look.”
He pulled her hand. “Let’s get out of here.”
Kate never looked at Derek again.
But Derek stared obsessively at Kate’s retreating figure for a long time.
