The meeting was set.

I’d chosen the location myself and ensured the area was secure enough.

I had men on the lookout, monitoring the movement of the lady. She arrived thirty minutes ago and had been sitting- impatientlyin the center of the room where a metal table was arranged, accompanied by two mismatched chairs.

It was an abandoned bar tucked in the armpit of the city. Peeling wallpapers scattered across the wall. Every surface of the room was blanketed with dust.

Reginathat was what she called herselfappeared nervous, looking around the whole time, probably anticipating the moment someone would walk in to meet her. Well, she had a reason to be nervous.

Five minutes later, Katya walked in, wearing her signature combat Pants, black shirt and ankle boots.

The moment she crossed the threshold, an alarm beeped. Regina jumped like she’d been shot, but Katya didn’t so much as blink.

Katya’s gun which was the reason for the alarm, peeked from the waistband at her back It was the one way we made certain that the lady didn’t have any weapon on herlike I’d instructedprior to the meeting.

She trained her gaze on Katya who walked over and took a seat at the table.

Who are you?The lady asked.

Katya gave her the look of someone who’d been interrupted midvodka shot. You asked for a meeting.

I did. But I thought I’d be meeting with the Torturer himself. I may not know him, but I do know he’s not a woman.

The scoff that left Katya’s lips could’ve curdled wine. She crossed her arms and spread her legs with the ease of someone who knew she owned the room.

Well, it looks like I just crash landed your high hopes. I’m all you’re getting today.

From beside me, Miles chuckled, sipping his drink like he was watching a play.

The lady lifted her gaze and focused on the one camera in the room. Now, it looked like she was staring at me.

He’s watching me,she stated the obvious, nodding her head.

Yes. And if you don’t start talking, I will make you regret wasting his time.

The lady sighed and looked away from the lens. I meant what I said in the emails. I really want to take Blade down.

During subsequent communications through emails, she’d revealed the asshole’s name was Blade. Though I doubted that was a real name.

How did you know we’ve been onto him?Katya asked.

The lady scoffed like the answer to the question should be obvious. Because until three weeks ago, I worked for him.

And now you betray him? For what? Moral awakening? Or did he not pay you well enough?

Chapter 39

Regina lowered her gaze, seeming conflicted.

Katya leaned in, elbows on the table. The lady was effortlessly frightening. Damn, she’d have been much better if she were born a man. But I liked the view nonetheless. I liked seeing women do so well in the men’s field.

Listen carefully, Regina. I do not come here to sip tea and braid hair. So, when I ask a question, I expect those lips to dance.

Regina blew a deep breath.

I betrayed him.She rushed the words, like they’d have a different meaning. I’ve been stealing from him for some time now, and Blade loathes thieves. So, when he found out about it, he ordered a hit on me, but I managed to escape.

I stayed in hiding for a week. But someone snitched, probably for a cut or a favor. And since I was the last lone wolf around, he assumed it was me and sent more dogs to sniff me out.

She lowered her gaze. My sister…” her voice thickened with guilt. They found her and killed her. She had nothing to do with it, yet they killed her!

Suddenly, I wished I was the one in Katya’s seat so I could tell the stupid bitch her sister was dead because of her.

I hated the bastard, sure. But I wasn’t about to paint him as the villain for drawing blood when betrayal slapped him in the face.

Katya watched her with an impassive face.

He still has more men looking for me. So, I need help.”

You need protection.Katya bobbed.

I believe The Torturer can help me with that. I promise to give him every information and assistance I can as long as he protects me, because I know he can.

Ask her why she thinks we need her,I communicated with Katya through the earpiece she had in her ear. We’ve both been on a phone call since she walked in.

Why do you think we need you?She relayed the question.

Oh, trust me, you’re going to want help if you want to catch this guy before your hair turns grey.. Why do you think it’s been difficult getting a digital hold on him? The man changes locations too often. He hardly uses a phone and most times, communicates through the lines of his closest men. He’s afraid of the Torturer and has been very careful around him.

My nose flared in irritation.

So, how do you intend to help us?Katya asked.

There’s a party happening in less than two weeks. He’s been planning it for some time and I only got to know by eavesdropping. He’ll be in attendance, along with some men he plans to meet.

Katya leaned forward. Details.

I promise I’ll tell you everything you need to know, but first, I need The Torturer to give me his word. I need to know I’m safe.

I eased back in my chair, hand sliding across my jaw.

Her life for Blade’s,Eric mumbled beside me. I’d say that’s fair game.”
