Chapter 38
These men… they had the build of guards, but didn’t look like they did things the legal way. They appeared so scary.

Their eyes raked over me as I walked beside Vlyrissa. There was something about the way they looked at me. Something that made my skin crawl with what? Was it fear?
All of a sudden, I wanted to run out of here.
“Grayson dropped you off. So, you don’t have a car,” Vlyrissa pointed out, a frown still furrowing her brows.
Where was the woman who used to laugh at the tiniest quirks? Who made tea herself and reminisced about beach trips in Italy?
She was gone.
“That’s correct. But not to worry, ma’am. I’ll just get a-‘
“That won’t do. Larry!” A tall man in a black suit, who’d been standing like a statue beside a Mercedes, came to life at her call.
“Please drive Ms. Hayes back to the office.”
Oh…
He nodded once, then strode around to open the back door even though I was still several steps away.
“Thank you, Mrs. Thorne.” I dipped my head.
It was all I could do not to run into the car. Once settled in, I took a deep breath.
That was…weird.
I looked through the tinted glass as the car eased away. Vlyrissa said something to the men before turning and storming into the house.
The four followed.

“It came in this afternoon. The delivery guy said I could sign for it since you weren’t around,” Veronica explained as I stared at the box sitting on the living room table.
It was a four–squared box, neatly tied with a green ribbon..
“Did he mention where it came from?”
“Nope.”
Hesitating a little, I began unwrapping it.
“Do you…think it’s from him?” Veronica asked, but I said nothing.
I didn’t really have many friends, and I definitely didn’t get random deliveries.
“I didn’t want to open it before you arrived, but I’ve been dman curious.”

Once the outer foil was off, we realized it was a big, solid box.
“I could help if you’re scared,” Veronica offered with a wink.
I took a deep, shuddering breath. Was I nervous? Absolutely. But did I want to unbox it myself? Hell yes.
I finally lifted the lid and my jaw nearly hit the floor.
“Holy smokes!” Veronica’s hand flew to her mouth.
Inside was a stunning purple bag with black fittings. It was possibly the cutest bag I’d ever seen.

But it didn’t end there. Surrounding it were bundles of cash–thick stacks layered around the bag like it was cushioned in
money.
And next to the bag, there was a tiny ribbon box, just like the outer one.
What the hell…
“Jesus, Rali! How is this happening?” Veronica’s eyes bulged as she dug her hands into the stacks “This is way too much!”
I was speechless, my thoughts spinning. Veronica reached for the smaller box, ripped the ribbon and opened it.
“Shoot me! This is clearly gold!”
Inside was a necklace with a pendant shaped like a planet’s ring. If it wasn’t the prettiest thing I’d ever seen, it came close.
But what was going on? Did ‘he‘ really send them?
“There’s a note.” Veronica fished out a small card from between the cash bundles.
She handed it to me, and I unfolded it slowly.
‘I hope this is enough to pay for the damages on your dresser the other day!
My lips parted in shock. He was referring to the day he ate me out on my dresser. Jesus Christ!
Veronica snatched the note from me, her reaction more intense than mine. “He spent all this cash for stuff that wouldn’t even take up to half of one bundle? Rali, this is too much money! It could be up to…” she threaded her fingers through the cash. A hundred grand!”
My heart thudded too fast, too hard. It i
was the first time I was getting this much gift from anyone.
“Only a very rich man could do this, Rali. What does this guy even do for a living?”
“I don’t know,” I muttered.
My brows furrowed as a thought sank in. “Maybe he stole them. Or killed someone to get them.”
I brushed my fingers into my hair. “I don’t like this, Nica. I need to do something.”
Veronica dropped the necklace she’d been admiring to properly face me,
“I’m ready to contact Void.”

An hour later, Ruby and Veronica were seated beside me on the bed. Ruby didn’t hesitate to abandon the event she’d be attending with her father to run over when she heard the news of my intention.

All three of us were seated in my room, staring at the screen of my laptop, at the message Veronica had drafted, ready to be sent to the private link of Black Net. All we had to do was click the ‘send button.
“But hold on,” Ruby held my hand. “This guy actually is romantic! Only someone intentional would send you the things he did, Rali.”
Veronica snapped. “Ruby, have you lost your mind? This guy killed people in front of her. Let’s not forget the cop from three days ago.”
Ruby rubbed the back of her neck, looking sheepish. “Okay, okay, granted. That part was a little psychotic. But everything else–the gifts, the note, the bag–it would’ve been perfect. If, you know, there weren’t a few corpses in the mix.”
I exhaled nervously. I lifted my hand to the screen, my finger hovering over the send button.
“Void is powerful,” I mumbled. “If I do this, the stalker might likely get killed. Is it the right thing?”
I didn’t understand why a tiny part of me was being reluctant. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I’d known him from the foster home.
But even then, he’s only caused me pain.
Veronica leaned forward. “Don’t be ridiculous, Rali. This is the only way to get rid of him. You have to do it.”
I closed my eyes, drew a deep breath, and when I opened them again, my finger fell on the ‘send‘ button.
It was do
