Chapter 56
“Back to my question, honey.” Igor clapped his hand.
“She has a name,” Void chimed in, his tone suddenly dipped in steel. “It’s Rali.”
My stomach flipped.
Igor blinked, clearly embarrassed before recovering with a brittle laugh.

“If I’d gotten married earlier than I did, Machai, I’d definitely have a daughter her age,” he said and I could feel the awkward chuckle scratching at the back of his throat “Okay, Rali, How did you two meet?”
I risked a glance at Void who seemed utterly enthralled by his plate. Shit. There was no way I was answering that.
«Actually, we met in a foster home.» Nah. I wasn’t about to announce to a table full of designer–clad strangers that I was a discard of the system.
Or maybe, «I met him in a man’s house when I was just about to have sex. Guess what he did? He killed the man and his guards. Yes. That sounded more fun.
I flicked another glance at Void. This time, the bastard was smiling at me. Not a warm, boy–next–door smile, but the kind that said: Struggle more. It entertains me
“We met when we were kids,” he answered for me, popping a slice of steak into his mouth.
Wait, what?
“My uncle was visiting some acquaintances and brought me along. I met Rali at their house. She was kind and pretty, we became friends, the friendship lasted years. And now here we are.”
I blinked. What the actual hell?
I fought to keep my face neutral, but internally, I was choking on disbelief. The knucklehead was such a skilled liar even the devil probably asked him for storytelling tips.
“How cute,” a lady from across the table giggled. I think someone had called her Lilian.
The lady next to her wasn’t smiling, though. A lot of people comed irritated with the fact that I was next to Prince Charming. Seriously? This asshole just raped, whipped and made me lick his cum off the floor. I’d gladly let them eat him for dessert if I could.
“You’re lucky, girl,” another lady said. “Machai is a solid catch.”
Void gave a soft chuckle. “I’d say I’m the lucky one. She chose me, after all.”
He looked at me, clearly wanting to see my pissed reaction, and he grinned when he got it.
“I never and will never choose you!» I wanted to scream at him. But then, this table could turn into a disaster.
“I’m pleased to meet you, Rali,” Igor said. “Machai is a good man. Believe me, he’s a great catch.”
I scoffed, unable to mask the irritation from my face. “Looks could be really deceiving, Mr. Stanislav.”
“Ah! Trust me, I’m not just referring to his looks.”

My tongue itched to say more, to tell them he was a monster who hurt me and killed people in my name. But all I did was stare down at my plate and let the rage simmer.
Fortunately, the topic shifted from the asshole and I, and dinner progressed well.
The meeting ended with Lillian inviting me to a swim tomorrow.

“The pool is quite large, it’s practically a small lake. It’ll be fun, and It’ll be great having you there, Rali. Ps-” she cupped her hand to the side of her mouth like she was about to share a secret. “it’s strictly for the girls.”
I couldn’t help but smile despite my mood. “It sounds really fun. I think I’ll be there.”
“Great! It’s nine a.m. After breakfast.”

Instead of heading to the room, I offered to take Rali on a walk to show her to some other parts of the boat. Well, maybe it wasn’t really an ‘offer‘ since I didn’t give her a choice, not even when she rebuffed the idea.
It was funny how she still thought she could say No to me. Rali could say ‘no‘ to a lot of things and I’d listen, but not when it came to spending time with her.
Her company was addictive, and if I had to force her to spend time with me, I’d do so with as much emphasis as needed.
I couldn’t stop staring at her despite the frown she had on her face. She was unaware of how anger heightened the edges of her beauty. The way her lips pressed into a tight thin line, the crease on her forehead, and the tightening of her jaw. It always gave her an unearthly kind of beauty. Yet, she wondered why I laughed each time she was pissed.
“What is it with you and Yvette?” She suddenly asked when we reached the lower sun deck.
The place was abandoned and quiet, and while Rali was thinking of ‘something‘ as insignificant as Igor’s wife, I was contemplating better ways to make use of the rare privacy.
We kept walking.
“What do you think? She’s Igor’s wife.” I shrugged. Maybe, I should start by kissing her.
“I’m not dumb, Void. I know who she is. But It’s crystal clear you two share something a lot of people don’t know about. Might explain why her eyes have taken up glaring duties. It’s hard not to notice.”
I broke my stride, amusement no doubt, dancing in my eyes.
Void.
It was the first time she called me by that name, and until now, I had no idea I could love it this much.
She stopped walking as well, curiosity flickering in her green doe eyes as she met my gaze.
Fuck, I loved this face. Each time I looked at her, it stole a piece of me I didn’t know I was willing to give.
“What?” She snapped, raising her brows, obviously annoyed at the way I stared at her without saying a word.
I bit back a grin. “You called my name. That’s a first.”

A frown settled on her face. She probably hadn’t noticed.
I continued walking.
“It’s not a big deal,” she huffed as she fell in step with me. “It’s not like Void is your actual name, anyway.”
“It’s the name I love to be called, Rali.”
“Why? You enjoy being reminded of the fact that you’re heartless?”
“You could say that, love. You have no idea how freeing it is not to care about people’s opinion.”
“Well, I do know that it sucks. You suck. It goes a long way to explain why you have to force me to be with you.”
“Keep saying that word and I might really make you suck on something.”

Her eyes rounded as her lips parted in shock. It was so easy to rile her up. And playing on her innocence was my favorite
game.
The crease on her forehead deepened. Definitely pissed.
I tried and failed to suppress a smile.

“I asked you a question about Yvette.” Her voice dripped with malice. “I need to know if I’m safe around her or not, because it doesn’t look like she likes me.”
“She doesn’t, but you’re safe. She wouldn’t dare touch a hair on you.”
“Why does she seem mad at you? Or me?”
I sighed. This little witch was definitely going to make me spill information I’d been keeping buried for years. I didn’t know how to fucking lie to her. The thought of her being emotionally hurt when she learned the truth was a reality I couldn’t
accept.
“I slept with her.”
Now it was her turn to stop dead in her tracks, her mouth hung open and her eyes bulging like I’d just confessed to giving out her favorite purple fur jacket.
“You slept with who!?” She practically shrieked.
