His eyes meeting mine again, they were far deadlier than before. I tried again to retreat but the damn stool pinned me like bad decision I couldn’t take back.

Maybe he’d hit me. Or worse.

Fortunately, he turned and stomped away.

I brushed my fingers into my wet strands, turning around in frustration.

No, there was nothing fortunate about this. I didn’t know what he was thinking, and with Void, that was the most dangerous thing of all.

How did he know about the note? Was it possible the monster had me under some sort of surveillance? The thought sent chills skidding down my spine.

I chased after him, the knot in my stomach loosening only slightly when I saw he was headed for our cabin.

As soon as we stepped inside, I folded my arms tightly across my chest, squaring my shoulders. You need to remember we’re on a very famous boat. You can’t do anything silly in here.

He dropped the note on the table, then moved to pour himself a drink. God, he was pissed.

Look,I tried, keeping my voice as even as my racing pulse would allow. he didn’t mean anything by it, okay? Guys make passes. It happens. Besides, he has no idea you’re the infamous Void.

Her didn’t even glance at me as he emptied his drink down his throat.

What now? What the hell was I supposed to do with this unhinged volcano in a human body?

He poured himself another glass and emptied it in seconds.

a

Would you have gone to him?He asked as he poured the third shot. If I didn’t know about the note, would you have gone to his cabin, Rali?

What? No!I wrinkled my nose in disbelief, eyes wide. Of course, not.

He downed the third shot, then abandoned the glass without a refill.

I watched him as he moved across the room, wondering what was next. I expected pacing. Maybe punching a wall.

Instead, he went to the landline, retrieved a blade from the cabinet, and to my surprise, cut the chord off.

Okay, why was he cutting off communication?

He proceeded to the wardrobe next, rummaged inside and returned with handcuffs.

Hold on; no. No

He moved towards me.

No! Stay away from me!I backpedaled until my back kissed the wall.

Too late.

He grabbed my wrists and I kicked, fought, cursed every god in every heaven I could think of, but he dragged me to the bed with terrifying ease. My wrists were cuffed and tethered to the headboard.

Please, you can’t do anything stupid! Let him be!I yelled at him, panting heavily.

Standing before me, he retrieved a cigar and lighter from his pocket. He lit the cigar without taking his eyes off me, striking the flame like he was summoning something wicked.

He took a long drag, then tilted his head. When he exhaled, the smoke barreled straight into my face.

Oh. Jesus.

I coughed and turned my face away, but that did nothing to help.

I’ll make him pay, Rali,he worded before walking out of the room, leaving me cuffed to the bed.

VOID

The cigarette stick was almost out by the time I reached the cabin. I knocked once, picturing the motherfucker being happy that it was Rali knocking.

I’d never understand why men volunteered for pain. He knew she was mine, yet he went for her.

Oh, Kurtis Flynn was going to pay.

The asshole opened up, revealing his imperfect face to me. A face that I had every intention to smash in and make ugly for the rest of the minutes he had to live.

The pig looked surprised to see me. He even glanced over my shoulder, probably checking for Rali too.

UhMr. Machai, do you need something?

Keeping my eyes on him, I took one last drag from my cigarette, dropped it to the floor and crushed it beneath my heel.

He tried to look composed but he was worried. I could smell it better than the smoke.

Maybe I could start by dragging my blade down the ugly furrow on his brows. That’d hurt like hell, and there was nothing I wouldn’t give to listen to that particular tone.

Do you need something? He repeated, growing impatient.

I tilted my head, smiling just enough to chill his spine. I should be asking.” The man was even short. You dropped a note with my girl. So maybe, you’re the one in need.

He looked perplexed, shocked, then more worriedall at once. I don’t know what you’re talking about. Please, I’m busy inside.

The clod tried to slam the door on me.

I moved faster than his brain could process. My blade came out in a flash and stabbed him in the back of his palm.

The scream he released, God, was symphonic. But that might get people’s attention.

I pushed my way in, kicking the door shut behind me.

What the fuck!? What the fuck!?He whined like a damn baby, holding out his hand that had blood raining from it. Too fucking beautiful.

You tell me, Kurtis.” I picked a lamp from the table, flipping it downward to check the base. Looked solid enough. You wanted to see my woman. Turned out I became more curious than her and decided to come myself.”

Seeing me with the lamp, the asshole turned around and tried to bolt. To where exactly? Did walls suddenly swallow people?

He’d barely taken two steps when I slammed the lamp against his head. The glass shattered on his skull before falling to the floor like drops of rain.

Fuck, I didn’t create things, but I sure loved to ruin.

The scum crumbled to the ground with a shriek that was too embarrassing for a man. Was it possible he was one of those females that disguised as a man? Because what in hell’s name was that shriek?

It was a good thing he wasn’t wasting his breath calling for help. He’d booked the soundproof cabin, obviously because he had plans that would require a lot of noise.

While he moaned, I darted my eyes around the room, looking for something I could use as a rope. Moments like this made me wish we were in my warehouse where I had my Pain Vault. The things I’d have done to him….

You’re fucked up, man!he spat.

I returned my eyes to him. He was on his back now, panting like a dog.

You’ll rot in jail for this. I swear, you’ll fucking rot!Blood and spittle exploded from his mouth.

I cocked my brows, suddenly picking interest in his Adam’s apple. He had one of those really obvious ones. The kind that bobbed when he swallowed hardlike he was doing now. Strange how I hadn’t noticed it before. Maybe because now, I was imagining carving it out.

I must have gone too still, because he suddenly found the courage to stagger to his feet. Amused, I watched him stumble toward the telephone.

The telephone.

My eyes ran along the cord.

You’re such a genius, Kurtis. Anyone ever told you that?I walked past him, reaching the telephone before his trembling hand could.

Desperation turned into delusion. The son of a clown threw a swing at me. Cute,

I tilted my head, sidestepped easily, and rammed the handle of my blade straight into his mouth. That should’ve cracked a tooth.

The sorry excuse of a man reeled and dropped to the floor. I focused on the telephone again, cutting off the cord with my blade.

Fuck! PleaseFuck! He yelled series of confused curses with teeth that were now painted red.

You’ve lost your mind,he shook his head. You’ve fucking lost it, man.

Mm. Sure, I have.I pulled the cord in my hand, wanting to see how long it stretched. You think you can help me find it?I gave a little pause, then added for clarity, My mind, I mean.
