“What are you doing here?”
Patricia sat in the passenger seat of the black Mercedes, looking over at Oliver. The happiness in her eyes was impossible to hide.
Oliver reached for her hand, his thumb brushing gently across her skin. “I just didn’t want to have any regrets,” he said softly.
It was a three-hour flight from Golden Bay, and he looked a little tired, like he’d rushed all the way here just for her.
The center console was between them, but Patricia leaned over and slipped her arms around his neck.
“If I’d known you were actually coming, I would’ve made a different wish,” she teased, grinning.
Oliver pulled her close, running his hand slowly up and down her back. “You can still make a wish. I’ll make it come true, whatever it is.”
“I have so many,” she said, her smile turning a little shy.
“I don’t mind.”
“Like, a ridiculous amount.”
He just grinned, hugging her tighter. “Bring it on. The more, the better.”
Patricia looked up at him, her voice quieter. “Aren’t you getting sick of me?”
Oliver’s eyes softened, and he shook his head. “I could never get sick of you. If anything, I wish I could spend even more time with you.”
“You’re leaving tonight?” she asked.
He tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Yeah. I need to be at a family thing early tomorrow morning.”
“I’ll come back the day after tomorrow to visit Grandma and Uncle,” she promised.
“You really don’t have to go to all that trouble,” he said, sighing as he pulled her closer. “Honestly, not seeing you is way harder than any trip.”
