You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 388

A playful smile tugged at her lips. “Let’s go home. Back to Cloud Peak.”

As the car turned around, she rolled down her window and caught Nina standing alone on the curb. Their eyes locked for a second in the chilly night air. Nina shifted, almost as if she wanted to chase after them, but then she stopped herself.

What was she so scared of? Wasn’t this exactly what she’d wanted from Joseph? If he didn’t act like this, how could she ever get over her anger?

Without missing a beat, she jumped into her own car and followed the ambulance straight to the hospital. By the time she parked and hurried into the ER, a nurse’s annoyed voice cut through the noise.

“Another one of these? Seriously, can’t these guys just act normal for once?”

“He’s losing a lot of blood. Hurry up and send him to colorectal surgery. Why is he still in the ER—are they just waiting for him to bleed out?”

Zoey and Ben rushed in just as Joseph was being wheeled into surgery. With all the chaos, there was no way to keep it under wraps. Someone from Obsidian had already called the police, and the story made it onto the news almost instantly.

“What happened? Wasn’t he supposed to be having dinner with the hotel partners tonight?”

“I don’t know, Mom,” Nina stammered, her voice shaking. “I just got there and saw my brother being carried out by the paramedics, and then—”

“Nina, that’s enough,” Zoey snapped.

Nina flinched and fell silent, her worry and frustration only growing as she waited for Joseph to come out of surgery.

While paying the hospital bill, she checked her phone. The scandal was already trending at the top of social media. A slow, satisfied smile curled on her lips.

Didn’t they love using her as a bargaining chip? Well, karma had a way of biting back. She’d been treated like a pawn. But him? He was the one left ruined.
