She barely slept last night, so she ordered a coffee.
A steaming Americano landed on her table.
As Patricia reached for her cup, she caught Amy heading her way out of the corner of her eye.
Amy looked casual in a plain black sweater, long hair tossed behind her back, a baseball cap pulled low. Her cheeks were still pink, maybe from just finishing a shoot, and she was pressing an ice pack to her face.
The moment Amy spotted Patricia, she paused.
“Ms. Martin, what are the odds?”
“Amy.” Patricia nodded politely.
Amy glanced around, saw no one else, and asked, “Waiting for someone?”
“Yeah.” Patricia’s answer was short. Then she added, “Shouldn’t you be keeping your distance from me?”
Amy grinned. “If I’m not worried, what’s there for you to be afraid of, Ms. Martin?”
“I’m just an ordinary person. Isn’t it normal for me to be a little worried about your fans coming after me?”
Amy pulled the ice pack from her face, looking genuinely surprised. “You really don’t know? The Riverdale tabloids already put your name on the protected list. Why do you think rumors about me and Theo are everywhere, but not a single headline about you, his ex-wife?”
Back when the gossip about her and Theo was everywhere, even Theo’s mom’s dog made it to the trending topics. But the ex-wife? Not even a mention.
Clearly, whoever had Patricia’s back was a force to be reckoned with.
Patricia frowned at that.
Amy laughed. “So you really didn’t know? That’s a first. I guess there are still some surprises left in this world.”
