After the body was carried away under a white sheet, Oliver finally smirked. “Luke really is Mr. Stone’s best helper. He’ll thank you for this, you know.”

The second Luke got into the car, the driver handed him a phone. “Sir, someone recorded everything and posted it online. It’s already blowing up.”

“But out of everyone there, your face is the only one that’s blurred.”

Luke stared, then grabbed the phone and watched. After a moment, his frustration boiled over. “It’s pointless. Trying to cover this up is just pointless.” The more you hide, the more people want to dig.

If this got any bigger, he was done for.

His hands were shaking. He was this close to the top—just one last step and Sara was all he needed. Now everything was on the verge of falling apart.

The next morning, Patricia headed into the master closet, planning to get dressed, and was surprised to see Oliver still in bed.

He heard her at the door, lifted his arm, and looked over at her.

“Did I wake you?”

“No,” his voice was deep and scratchy. He pushed himself up, still sitting, and held out his hand.

Patricia walked over, sitting on the edge of the bed, eyeing him. “You look tired.”

“What time did you get home last night?”

“Almost three.”

She raised her eyebrows, surprised, but let it go right away.

Oliver waited for her to ask more, but she didn’t. He sounded almost like he was pouting. “You’re not even going to ask what I was doing?”

“If you want to tell me, you’ll tell me,” Patricia said smoothly. Her face said it all: If you don’t want to share, I’m not going to push.

Oliver blinked, caught off guard. Then he just laughed.
