You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 422

“Did you say Ruby’s coming back?”

“Yeah!”

“Any idea when?”

“Nope. Sometime in the next month, I guess.”

Patricia was holding a calligraphy brush, its tip gliding smoothly over the rice paper as she sketched out the shape of a person. Her strokes were steady and light. Chelsea watched for a bit, looking genuinely interested in whatever Patricia was working on. She leaned in for a closer look.

Her eyes shot open in shock. “Wait, are you drawing—an erotic scene?”

She grinned, teasing, “Is Oliver getting too old for you or what?”

Patricia paused, lips pressed together, shooting Chelsea a look that said she had no idea how to respond.

“Seriously? No way! Is that thing about men over thirty only being good for conversation actually true?”

“Just watch, and quit talking,” Patricia said, pointing at the chair across from her.

Chelsea slid into the seat, elbows on the desk, eyes glued to the paper. Pretty soon, as the artwork came together, the sensual scene on the rice paper became impossible to miss.

Chelsea’s jaw dropped. “Wait, that’s Ruby? Who’s the guy?”

“Her kid’s father.”

Chelsea practically bounced in her chair like she’d just stumbled into a juicy secret. “Ruby has a kid? No way!”

“Shouldn’t the dad be Theo? They’ve been together for years—don’t tell me Ruby cheated?”

Patricia didn’t answer, but the look in her eyes said it all.

It took Chelsea a second to process. Then she let out a low whistle. “Damn.”

“That’s wild!”

“So what’s the painting for?”

“I’m getting it framed. It’s a gift for Tina.”

Chelsea gave her an approving nod and a thumbs-up.
