“Alright, alright, you sure know how to talk your way out of anything. I give up,” Roger said, admitting defeat like he always did whenever he tried to out-argue Sara.
Patricia was coming down the stairs just as she spotted Sara scrolling through her phone, searching for the best chill spots nearby.
“Aunt Patricia, you have to come with us!”
“Is this for a spring outing?”
Sara flashed a big grin. “You bet!”
“Alright, pick a place and let me know.”
After chatting with them for a minute, Patricia slipped away into the tea room on the first floor.
Jackson walked in from outside, carrying a duffel bag straight to Patricia in the tea room. He unzipped it, revealing stacks of receipts and documents, some dating all the way back eight years.
“We’ve got evidence, recordings, the whole works.”
“Wilma says this is more than enough to nail it. Oh, and here’s something interesting—eight years ago, when her husband jumped off that building, the detective on the case was Brandon’s mentor.”
“Should we check out this Brandon guy? I don’t know, but it feels like everything that’s happened since we got back to Riverdale keeps coming back to him. It’s almost spooky.”
“He’s the head of detectives, and all this happened in his district. It’s not weird he keeps showing up. Leave him for now. As long as he’s not working for the other side, he’s not our problem.”
Patricia leaned on the table with both hands, staring at the thick stack of files. Her brows were pinched together, worry written all over her face.
Jackson watched her for a while, saw she was deep in thought, then quietly started making tea off to the side. As the water boiled and steam drifted from the spout, Patricia seemed to snap into focus for a moment.
“I need a knife.”
Jackson froze, caught completely off guard.
He pulled a small fruit knife from the tea table drawer and handed it over. “Here.”
Patricia glanced at the shiny blade and rolled her eyes.
