Oliver dropped his gaze, staring at the photo on the table.

Hector picked it up, squinting as he studied it. He hesitated, then blurted out, “Wait… is that… Colton and the others?”

“Try saying it without tripping over your own tongue,” Oliver shot back.

“What’s your deal? Don’t bite my head off,” Hector grumbled, but he took another look at the photo, worry flickering in his eyes. After a moment, he muttered, “Don’t tell me Bryson’s kid dragged them into this…”

He left the rest unsaid.

Everyone knew what happened to Colton back at Golden Bay, how he’d been set up. The Padilla family had been furious, the whole clan coming down hard to set things straight. If that sort of mess happened again, Oliver might actually break someone’s legs.

“Give Zhao Tao three days off,” Oliver said quietly. “He needs time to go home and clean up his family mess.”

Hector caught the warning in his tone. “And if he can’t handle it?”

Oliver’s eyes pinned him with a look. “What do you think?”

What did he think? He didn’t think anything. It wasn’t his kid getting in trouble, and it wasn’t his problem if someone else’s got dragged down. He was just an employee. No way was he getting in the middle of that.

None of this was worth his paycheck.

Patricia had barely stepped off the plane when she shot Oliver a message.

She drove straight to the Blue Ridge retirement villa, weaving through the winding neighborhood until she pulled up at the entrance.

A black Mercedes was parked by the curb. Jackson got out to stretch his legs, taking a lazy lap around the car. When he came back, someone trailed behind.

Savannah glanced around nervously before slipping into the car, startled when she saw Patricia. “Miss.”

“How’s Grandma these days?” Patricia asked, her fingers wrapped around a thermos. She didn’t drink, just let the steam swirl between them.

“Same as always,” Savannah said quietly. “But Ms. Martin came by a few days ago. They spent the whole afternoon talking.”
