Besides, that brand of purse was anything but low-key.

“Is it too late to head out now?”

“Isn’t the mall about to close?” Patricia checked the time. It was almost ten.

Mr. Padilla rested his hand gently on her shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. Are you tired?”

“If you’re feeling wiped, we can just pick something online and have it delivered tonight.”

Patricia thought for a second, then nodded.

She was exhausted.

Completely wiped out.

All she wanted right now was a hot bath and some peace.

“Let’s just shop online, then. I’ll call someone at the mall to handle the delivery.”

Patricia slipped her hand into his, giving it a gentle squeeze. Something warm and soft bloomed in her chest. “Thanks for taking care of it.”

He smiled. “Silly girl, don’t mention it.”

The next morning, Patricia woke up and brought Marian and Jackson with her to Chelsea’s apartment.

A couple of housekeepers from Cloud Peak came along, too.

Chelsea’s place wasn’t too big or too small—about two thousand square feet, all on one floor. She’d been busy with a project lately and hadn’t stayed there for a couple of months.

Dust covered everything.

After learning her lesson last time, Patricia got there early with help to clean up and restock the fridge.

By the time it was all done, it was almost noon.

Jackson had already taken several bags of trash out. Hearing movement at the door, he figured Patricia had come back from the grocery store.

He yelled from the kitchen, “You will not believe what I found in the fridge! There’s lettuce in here from March—it’s grown fur, I swear!”

“Anyone who marries her is doomed for eight generations.”

Patricia paused at the doorway, listening to Jackson rant, then glanced back at Oliver.

Their eyes met right then.

Before she could say anything, Marian’s voice cut in, “Just take the trash out, will you? Why are you complaining so much? Chelsea hardly ever comes home—she’s always in the lab. When she’s back, all she wants to do is sleep. Who has time for housework?”
