Someone grumbled, “Seriously, if you’re some rich heiress, just stay home and enjoy your life. Why come out here and fight for our jobs? Doesn’t she have anything better to do? I’ve been chewed out at work so many times lately because of her.”

“Let them complain. The bosses know what’s really going on—they just need someone to blame.”

“Martin Group’s reputation is tanking. Let’s see how long she can keep this up. She’s holding onto six big productions and pouring money into all of them. There’s no way she can get them out any time soon, and investors aren’t going to jump in right now. She’ll have to shoulder it all herself. Just wait. There’s no rush.”

Patricia was sitting quietly on the couch behind them, just listening to the whole conversation.

After a while, she couldn’t help but smile a little.

The only reason Ruby could act so fearless was because she’d leveraged Martin Group’s assets. The second Emerson stepped down, everything would explode.

Brandon didn’t even need to ask what that meant. He’d heard this routine before. The higher you climb, the messier things get, and this time it was obvious—someone had pulled some strings.

He quickly tried to reassure his boss. “You don’t have to worry. I’ll handle this case properly and make sure the department comes out clean.”

His boss nodded with a small, unreadable smile. “Glad to hear it. Having someone like you on this makes things easier for me.”
