Taking advantage of the chaos, Narissa quietly slipped out of the room and put on an act as just another soldier coming in with a report.

As expected, everyone fell for it.

Alina pouted, clearly unconvinced. “That was just a clever little trick–not even worth mentioning.”

Narissa scoffed. “Oh? You really think so?”

“Of course I do! All you did was play on our weaknesses. What if someone here wasn’t fooled by it?” Alina shot back.

Narissa let out a cold laugh and casually flicked her fingers.

Suddenly, the fire alarm blared to life.

Everyone jumped, their hearts pounding as they scrambled to look around, trying to figure out where the fire was.

In that split second of confusion, Narissa disappeared. By the time anyone realized, she was nowhere to be found.

“Did she run off just because she was afraid we’d call out her trick? What a coward,” Alina sneered.

“You sure about that?” Narissa’s voice drifted into Alina’s ear like a ghost, sending chills down her spine.

“You!” Alina gasped, whipping around.

To her utter shock, Narissa was now standing there as Skye. She’d switched identities in a heartbeat.

“Where’s Skye?” Alina demanded, her voice trembling.

“I’m right here,” Skye replied, stepping out of the classroom like she’d just pulled off a magic trick.

She hurried over to Narissa, practically buzzing with excitement.

She said, “Narissa, that trick of yours is insane. You used whatever you had around to grab everyone’s attention and then just vanished without a trace.

“And it works like a charm every single time. That’s unreal!”

Narissa glanced at Alina and the instructor. “Want to run another test?”

“Don’t get cocky! We just got distracted, that’s all. Try that again and there’s no way you’ll trick us,” Alina huffed.

“Oh really?” Narissa snapped her fingers.

All at once, the lights in the entire training base went out, plunging everyone into total darkness.

Everyone freaked out in the dark, not knowing what was going on.

A few seconds later, the lights came back on–and just like that, Narissa was gone again.

“She must be hiding among us,” Alina muttered.
