Balance of Light and Shadow

Chapter 203

Lewana POV

We get word that the Psirens are in place and start to move towards the target area. I notice that as we get closer, the stars start to disappear. As I look at the moon above the canopy of trees, it also looks like it is dimming.

The shadows. This is why we couldn’t sense or get a view of the area. They have permeated everything. They have literally sucks the life out of everything in the area.

I start to feel the fear creeping into my soul, like the shadows that are casting darkness over me are seeping into my very skin and contaminating me.

If I’m feeling like this now, the Shadows must know we are here.

I can hear Liam mumbling next to me. I recognize it as one of Mary’s prayers. At the end of it, he adds another line.

Moon Goddess. Work through us as we protect your blessing and kin.

As soon as the words leave his lips, the quartz around his neck starts glowing. This sets off a chain reaction for everyone else, including my own. The surge of power I feel is unlike anything I have ever felt, and my golden eyes start to glow. Even my skin starts to glow, and my hair looks almost white.

I start to laugh. It looks like she has forgiven you, Liam.

With the extra light, we notice the change in our surroundings. We can make out the rock structure that shows the

base at the edge of the canyon, except that the structure is off.

That’s when I realize what is actually before us. It’s an abandoned mine. This used to be a mountain, but it has slowly been cut away to form a prison. That’s why it showed up as a canyon on the map.

I signal to Connor and the other hunters. Go up top and get a view of everyone below. If they are black, shoot on

sight.

They all reply in unison. Yes, Luna Queen.

We start to hear calls on the radio. One down on the east side, Two down on the west side.

That’s when Connor comes across the radio. Some of the ones down below are starting to look up. Think it is now

or never, Luna Queen,

I look at my smaller band of soldiers and just nod at all of them. Aalto, who is next to me, starts singing a song as we start to walk toward the entrance. It’s loud enough that it starts echoing around the site, and I can see wolves start to emerge.

The site before me makes me nearly throw up. The stench is overwhelming as wolves remain huddled in rags under

makeshift shelters. It’s not just the feces I can smell, but the infection and decay.

The wolves on guard turn to me with weapons drawn, and before they can shoot, they are killed by hunters up above. As they were shot with weapons that had silencers, they dropped silently, and I moved gracefully past them.

I’m not really sure what I am meant to be doing, but I trust in Serena that she will know. My golden eyes come out in full force, and I draw on the energy of the moon quartz.

Light starts to flow from me like white smoke, lighting up the air. Each whisp moves silently through the crowd and touches the forehead of each wolf, making their aura glow for a brief second as their wolf comes forward.

I can see the confusion on their faces as they realise they are no longer under control and see the light return to their eyes.

I trust in my team as I see a few more wolves drop from bullets within the crowd, but I can see more and more starting to wake up.

That’s when I hear the screech and look up. The shadows were pissed.

I could see the sky darken even more, as if trying to keep the moonlight away from the land they have claimed. I look directly at the moon and see the light dimming even more as the sky is drowned in shadow, as the whiphers

start to surround us all from every direction.

The wolves start to panic, whimper in fear as they cover their ears. Our soldiers start looking around frantically to find the enemy to shoot and defend me, but there is no protection. The quartz starts to glow more intently as physical shadows start sweeping at them, but retreat when they get too close to the light.

I can feel the connection between Serena and the Moon growing stronger and know what is about to happen. I start to float on the spot as I feel myself being filled with light. I can feel myself filling from my toes to the top of my head, making me feel almost light as air.

A blinding light shoots out from my very soul and fills every crevice in the canyon. The shadows are sent flying with a warped scream into the night as the stars and moon start to shine brighter than they have in a long time.

The floating sensation suddenly dissipates, and I’m caught by Liam.

Easy. I got you, Lewana, I’m exhausted and struggling to keep my eyes open.

They fly open when a familiar cold shiver runs straight through my chest. One last desperate attempt of the shadows to put the fear of them back in me.

Doom.

He gave me a vision of Malik struggling to breathe and partially shifting at the gala. He is clutching at his chest and shaking his head, screaming no over and over again.

He can feel what we have done. He’s coming for us.
