Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 110

With his father present, Beasley wasn't especially worried about his mother, and as for the reason his grandmother had called him home—he could more or less guess.

"Your birthday's in less than ten days," his grandmother began, her tone unusually pleasant and direct. She never bothered with roundabout talk, not with this grandson—she knew well he despised all forms of subtlety. "You haven't forgotten what you promised me, have you?"

"I haven't forgotten," Beasley replied evenly.

A flicker of anticipation lit up his grandmother's shrewd eyes. "So, do you have any good news for me?"

Of course, she didn't really expect good news from the two of them. She knew full well there was no hope left—after all, Willow had been avoiding her calls for over a month now. If Willow was so busy locking herself away, where would she find the time for making babies?

So the old lady's excitement wasn't from hope for an heir, but from the prospect of finally being able to choose a new granddaughter-in-law.

"Not yet…" Beasley began.

"I knew it!" she snapped, her pleasant facade evaporating. "She's always got an excuse! It's clear as day she has no intention of giving the Windsor family an heir!"

Beasley shot his grandmother a faintly amused look. "Grandma, I meant we haven't gone to get tested yet."

Her anger froze mid-expression. "...Well then, what are you waiting for? This is an important matter. Why are you two acting like there's all the time in the world?"

She grumbled, trying to save a bit of face.

Beasley just nodded obligingly. "We'll make time for it next week."

Her expression darkened at once. "Next week? Why not today? And—let me be perfectly clear—if your wife's stomach shows no signs of life before your birthday, I'll be picking you a new bride myself."

"You listened to your mother and married Willow once; now it's time to listen to me." She rattled her words off so quickly Beasley barely had time to respond.

His grandmother was left baffled. Evelyn had hinted to her more than once that Rosamund's heart belonged to Beasley, and that it was only his married status keeping her from speaking up. So how on earth had Rosamund become someone else's wife in Beasley's eyes?

"You're not trying to fool me, are you?" she pressed, scrutinizing his face for any sign of mischief.

He smiled serenely. "You're far too sharp for that, Grandma. I wouldn't dare."

She scoffed inwardly. As if he hadn't pulled the wool over her eyes before.

Take last year, for example—she'd asked him to help Uncle Addison secure that Silverbrook project. He'd agreed, but in the end, someone else snatched it up. When she confronted him, he'd simply explained that the project wasn't a good fit for Uncle Addison and that he'd already found him another one.

Was that keeping his promise? No, that was dodging it—and she was getting more and more annoyed just thinking about it.
