Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 113

York couldn't help but breathe a quiet sigh of relief.

At least his best friend was still on his side.

But Manuel scoffed, "That little film company of his? What's he ever going to accomplish with it?"

York jumped in defensively. "It's not ‘nothing'—Beasley invested a hundred million dollars in it!"

If his best friend had his back, surely he wouldn't blame him for dragging him into this, right?

Even so, York shot a quick, guilty glance at Beasley.

Beasley didn't even look his way.

Another silent breath of relief.

Paige reached over and gently patted her husband's back, trying to calm him down. Manuel waved her off, then fixed his gaze on their son, eyes stern. "If it wasn't for your friendship, do you really think Beasley would have invested in you?"

"Don't get yourself worked up—remember your blood pressure," Paige said softly, giving his back another soothing pat.

York was usually a smooth talker, but in front of his parents, he always tread carefully.

Especially with his aunt Claire here.

Wasn't she supposed to be living halfway across the country in Stratus City? What was she doing back, and with her whole family in tow?

There hadn't been any big family events lately…

As York puzzled over why Claire had come home, she spoke up.

Both Beasley and York had been handsome since childhood. Beasley, especially—before he grew into his current cool, distant persona, he'd been the class favorite, trailed constantly by adoring classmates, especially the girls.

Everyone loves a pretty face, after all.

But Beasley had always found the attention exhausting. He'd perfected the art of ignoring people, sometimes going so far as to bring his bodyguard to school. Outside of class, the bodyguard acted like a personal bouncer, keeping the crowds at bay.

Naturally, news of this little arrangement made its way to the Sinclairs—especially since the Windsors and the Sinclairs were old family friends, and York and Beasley had grown up as inseparable playmates, attending the same school and even sharing a classroom. Both families kept close tabs on each other.

After York's mother had given birth to both boys, her health had declined. She'd battled leukemia and undergone a bone marrow transplant, leaving her in fragile condition, often bedridden and unable to handle much stress.

So Claire, as their aunt, had stepped up to take charge of York and his brother's upbringing.

Since Beasley and York were so close, Beasley spent much of his childhood at York's house—meaning he'd been subject to Claire's "supervision" as well.
