Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 116

"By the way, York," Beasley said offhandedly, "did you take care of those rumors online about me and Rosamund a while back?" He mentioned the recent frenzy, as if it were nothing.

Everyone at the table—except the two kids who were thoroughly absorbed in their blocks—knew exactly what he was referring to. At Beasley's words, the mood shifted; glances flickered, and expressions grew complicated.

All eyes turned to York.

York rubbed his nose, looking slightly guilty. "I did what I could. But some of the gossip just spreads on its own, and we can't have someone on standby 24/7 deleting every single post."

Manuel ventured, "How did that rumor even get started?"

Beasley replied, "Probably some tabloid fishing for clicks made it up. Both York and I were at the launch event that day, but York was luckier—he managed to avoid the paparazzi. Otherwise, who knows what kind of wild story would be making the rounds now?"

York looked even guiltier and avoided Beasley's gaze.

The truth was, he'd deliberately kept his distance at the launch, not giving the reporters or photographers the slightest opening for gossip.

Claire frowned and said, "That's show business for you. Rumors, slander, and wild speculation never stop. So many people make a living off celebrity gossip, and if they can't find a scandal, they'll just invent one. Some people don't care how low they have to stoop, as long as they get paid."

Beasley let out a sigh. "To put an end to all the speculation, York, I won't be able to help with the movie promotions anymore."

With just a few words, Beasley tossed the whole film project into York's lap, and at the same time, made it clear in front of the Sinclairs that there was nothing going on between him and Rosamund.

Only then did Manuel finally believe that the rumor was nothing but tabloid nonsense. He breathed a quiet sigh of relief.

"York, from now on, don't trouble Beasley with your business," Manuel said, turning to York.

After all, since the production company belonged to his own son, and Rosamund had been cast as the lead by him, Beasley's willingness to invest in the film was already a huge favor. It wouldn't be right to drag Beasley into more trouble.

Before heading off, they stopped at a restaurant for lunch. Afterward, Beasley and York drove back to York's new place.

Over lunch, York once again confirmed with his family that he'd be returning to work at the Sinclair Group by the end of the month.

But this was by no means his idea. He was being forced into it, which was why, as soon as he and Beasley were back at his place, York went looking for a little "payback."

"You know full well my family's going to start setting me up on blind dates once I'm back," York grumbled, heading into the living room. "And instead of helping me out, you actually agreed to it on my behalf?"

He tossed his car keys onto the coffee table with a clatter, then reached for the bottle of red wine Beasley had brought over.

His eyes flicked over the label—1992 Screaming Eagle Cabernet, no less. Clearly, Beasley had come prepared.

Now York felt almost guilty for wanting to scold him.
