Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 128

The friend who'd just called him was named Jasper; the other was Bernard Wilson.

Jasper shot a cold glance at the man on the ground, baring his teeth in a sneer before spitting on him. "He messed around with Bernard's girl."

Bernard, despite his scholarly looks, was the kind of man who could kill with his bare hands if pushed.

The fact that this guy was still kneeling here in one piece had nothing to do with Bernard sparing him for Emmett's sake. No, Bernard had simply thought up a better way to teach him a lesson.

"Emmett, I swear, I had no idea she was your friend's girlfriend!" Zane's face was twisted in misery as he pleaded with his half-brother. "You know me, I'd never dare! Please, Emmett, you have to help me!"

Zane was the illegitimate son of Emmett's father, and the third branch of the Simmons family never really had much standing. Emmett's father didn't have the guts to acknowledge Zane as his son, so Zane took his mother's last name instead.

Emmett's face was thunderous as he said nothing.

"Oh really?" Bernard finally spoke, voice icy. "From where I'm standing, you've got plenty of nerve. You even dared to secretly film Beasley."

Emmett's expression shifted. He frowned, "Beasley? Filming?"

Zane's face went ashen. He began to tremble, his head drooping so low it was as if he wanted to vanish with his phone on the spot.

He regretted everything—regretted that moment of stupidity when he'd secretly recorded that video, and even more so, sharing it to show off to his girlfriend—wait, no, Bernard's girlfriend, that was the problem.

Why couldn't he have just enjoyed his little secret in private? Did he really have to flaunt it? Was it worth it to risk everything just for a moment's thrill?

Zane was drowning in regret.

"So what did he film?" Emmett pressed.

If Bernard could name Beasley, he'd obviously seen the footage already.

Jasper nudged Zane with his foot, his tone brooking no argument. "Spit it out. And don't stutter."

The shot was taken from a distance. The camera could zoom in, but the audio was hopeless—no matter how loud he turned it up, the words were muffled.

Only one sentence was clear enough to catch: the woman in the video's final plea, "Please stay away from me. Thank you."

But what stood out most was that Beasley and the woman had been locked in an embrace for over ten seconds—hardly the behavior of casual acquaintances. And at the end, the woman doubled over, vomiting.

A woman throwing up—what else could it mean?

She was obviously pregnant.

The only question was whether the baby was Beasley's.

With a secret this explosive, no wonder Zane hadn't been able to resist showing off.
