"Who's the woman in the video?" Emmett's expression was stone-cold as he questioned Zane.
Zane shook his head, clearly rattled. "I—I swear I have no idea. I was just at the VIP ward visiting my grandmother that day. I must have gotten the wrong floor by accident, and that's when I stumbled across this. I didn't dare get any closer—I was afraid they'd notice me."
The video was clear enough for anyone to recognize the man as Beasley, which meant the woman's face was just as easy to make out.
"So Beasley's into this kind of thing?" Jasper arched an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at his lips. "Here I thought he was different from the rest of us—didn't care about women at all. Turns out our illustrious President Windsor's got a thing for the ice queen type."
No doubt, the woman was beautiful. But it was her attitude toward Beasley that was truly intriguing.
She kept her distance, her face cold and unreadable—playing hard to get at a whole different level.
"What are you planning to do?" Emmett asked Bernard this time.
He and Bernard had known each other for years—Emmett understood there had to be a reason Bernard hadn't gone after Zane yet.
Bernard's lips curled into a faint, almost polite smile, but the look in his eyes sent a chill down Zane's spine. "He messed with my girl. And as for Beasley—he didn't just refuse to protect you in that movie deal, he actually had you replaced. So, why not let him help you vent some of that anger?"
There was no doubt who he meant by "he"—Zane was the scapegoat.
Bernard outlined his plan to Emmett and Jasper.
Zane went pale, panic flooding his face as he started begging for mercy. But not one of them paid him any attention.
Sure, Zane didn't dare offend Emmett's buddies—but crossing the CEO of Windsor & Co.? Not even if he had nine lives to spare.
Emmett listened to Bernard's proposal, frowning in thought as Zane pleaded desperately in the background.
He had always been wary of Beasley and had a complicated love-hate relationship with STAR.
He was obsessed with STAR's novels—but ironically, it was those same books that had nearly ruined him.
Emmett shot back, "Aren't you?"
Bernard's family owned a business too. They didn't deal with Windsor & Co. directly, but if Beasley ever wanted to retaliate, the Wilsons would be easy targets.
Bernard just snorted. "I've never been scared of anything."
Jasper chimed in, siding with Bernard. "Exactly. What's there to be afraid of? We're not the ones posting the video—Zane's the one who did it. If Beasley wants revenge, he'll go after him, not us."
Zane was shaking uncontrollably now, finally realizing why they hadn't just beaten him up.
If they roughed him up, it would look like they'd forced him into it. But if they left him alone, it'd seem like he'd acted on his own, just to show off.
"But—but I'm Emmett's brother…"
Jasper scoffed and spat at Zane's shoes. "Please. An illegitimate brat like you doesn't get to call yourself Emmett's brother."
