Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 143

Juliette hadn't really fallen asleep. She'd simply closed her eyes, feigning rest.

When she heard the man call her name, she slowly opened her eyes.

Juliette was already strikingly beautiful, and after keeping her eyes closed for so long, the moment she looked up, her gaze held a faint, dreamy allure—seductive without her even realizing it.

Just as she opened her eyes, the man happened to glance over, locking eyes with her smoldering, crystal-clear gaze.

If it had been any other man, he might have lost all self-control, drawn in by that intoxicating look, unable to resist leaning in for a stolen kiss.

But the man in front of her wasn't just anyone—it was Lionel Scott. He'd always had a weakness for girls who seemed pure and delicate, the kind who looked as if a strong breeze might knock them over.

He once told her that those girls made him want to protect them.

Juliette had known him for over a decade—she knew him better than anyone.

Which was why, with Lionel, she never bothered to put up a front. Just on looks alone, she wasn't his type, not to mention she had never pretended to be fragile.

She glanced out the car window at the large sign on the building across the street, "Anglemont Hotel," spelled out in bold English and French. With a teasing smile, she said, "This must be a tricky one. You're actually treating me to dinner at such a fancy place?"

Lionel was in the middle of unbuckling his seatbelt. He shot her a look, lips quirking up into a grin. "If it wasn't tricky, would I dare bother the busiest woman I know?"

He'd already reserved a private room upstairs. The two of them got out and headed straight for the second floor.

They'd barely sat down—hadn't even looked at the menu—when Lionel leaned in, excitement lighting up his face. "I've found the real thing this time. If it works out, I swear I'll get you the best wedding gift imaginable."

She shot him a mock glare, but with her naturally sultry eyes, the effect was anything but intimidating.

In the end, she ordered two plates of Alba truffle steak, two servings of French blue lobster, two portions of pan-seared cod, and two squab stuffed with black truffle. For starters, she chose foie gras mousse and smoked eggs with caviar, and for dessert, flambéed ice cream and mille-feuille.

She really was going to make him pay tonight.

"Alright, spill it. Who's the unlucky little lamb you've set your sights on this time?"

Juliette set the menu down and got straight to business.

Lionel was wearing a vintage blue velvet suit jacket over a leopard-print shirt, the top button intentionally undone to show off his collarbone, a pair of sunglasses hooked carelessly onto his shirt. He exuded a kind of rakish charm—a classic playboy, through and through. She couldn't help rolling her eyes at how much of a show-off he was.
