Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 144

Lionel's eyes sparkled. "She's not some damsel in distress—she's just adorable, that's all!"

Juliette's heart clenched, but she kept her cool, teasing him as usual. "What's this? Giving up your savior complex already?"

In the past, every woman Lionel had been drawn to was the same: fragile, helpless, always in need of rescue. He never failed to fall for those delicate, wide-eyed girls who made you want to wrap them in a blanket and keep them safe from the world.

Because of that, not a single one of his ex-girlfriends came from an old-money family. They were all ordinary girls, nothing like the debutantes you'd expect at black-tie galas.

But the moment those girls found their footing—when money and comfort were no longer worries—Lionel would lose interest overnight. He'd end things in a heartbeat, never looking back. Dangerous man, really.

"She's the younger Miss Worthington. She doesn't need me to play the hero," Lionel replied with a soft laugh.

Juliette blinked. "The younger Miss Worthington?"

Her best friend had married into one of Kingston City's most prestigious families, so Juliette was no stranger to the city's elite circles. Of course she'd heard of the Worthingtons.

"That's right. Her name's Cordelia. Met her at a New Year's ball," Lionel said, his face lighting up as he launched into an enthusiastic play-by-play—how he'd met Cordelia, what had drawn him to her, every tiny detail spilled out as if it were the best story he'd ever told.

Juliette listened, a dull ache pressing against her chest. But maybe this would be the last time she had to endure it. Once he got married, her torment would finally end.

In the blink of an eye, he'd swiped all the eggs from her plate and popped them into his mouth—so much for sharing.

"She's already got someone she likes," he mumbled through a mouthful, "so I have to figure out how to win her over."

"You're a woman—you must know how girls think. Come on, give me some tips. How do I get her to notice me?"

He was still chewing, his words coming out muffled and eager.
