Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 160

Willow personally brewed a pot of herbal tea for her father and settled down beside him on the couch.

Once everything was ready, she took the initiative to speak.

"Dad, I ran into Beasley at the hospital a while back. We had a bit of a run-in, and wouldn't you know it, some nosy bystander caught it all on camera and posted it online."

Klein's brow furrowed with concern. "You went to the hospital? Were you feeling unwell?"

Willow managed a faint smile, as if recalling something trivial. "It was right after the divorce. I'd been having trouble sleeping, and I was worried it might take a toll on my health if it kept up, so I made an appointment to see if there was anything the doctor could do to help."

She remembered when her mother had just passed away—her father had struggled with insomnia for a long time. But with her to care for, he couldn't afford to fall apart. He'd forced himself to seek help, and little by little, he pulled himself through.

Her father knew how deeply she'd once loved Beasley, so this gentle lie was one he'd accept—and understand.

As expected, Klein's eyes filled with even more worry, but some of his tension eased. He asked, "How are you sleeping now? Any better?"

He'd seen the video—Willow looking so ill she was physically sick. Clearly, things had been bad.

Willow just smiled and threw the question back at him. "Why don't you take a look at me now? How do I seem?"

Tonight, she'd gone out of her way to skip makeup, letting her natural complexion show, just to reassure her father and put his mind at ease.

Klein studied her face carefully. She looked healthy and bright-eyed. He thought back to the day after he'd returned from his research trip to Riverstone—he'd met her at the cemetery, and she'd looked so drawn and pale, with dark circles under her eyes. She'd cried that day, even though she'd tried to smile through it. Her emotions had clearly been all over the place.

He blamed himself for not being more attentive. No matter how much Willow insisted she'd moved on from Beasley, claiming she wasn't hurt or heartbroken, he knew that when you've truly loved someone, no matter the reason things end, it's impossible not to feel some lingering pain or regret.

Klein looked her over. She really did look better than she had two months ago, with some color back in her cheeks.

Words might lie, but a person's health and spirit never do.

At last, a genuine, relaxed smile broke through his gentle features. "You need to eat regularly—more than you do. You're still not gaining enough."

Willow laughed. "I know, I know. I'll have Professor Sheffield keep an eye on me!"

They chatted for a while longer, finishing off the whole pot of herbal tea before Willow reluctantly took her leave.

By the time she arrived back at Cliffhaven Gardens, it was already past nine.
