Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 161

When Willow parked her car, she made a point to glance at the parking spot next to hers. It was empty.

She let out a quiet breath of relief.

These days, she dreaded the idea of running into him in the elevator—the man who haunted her like a shadow. Who knew when he'd finally move out?

Gathering her things, Willow headed for the elevator and rode it up to the twentieth floor. As the doors slid open, she stepped into the brightly lit hallway. Directly across from her apartment was his.

She cast a quick glance at his door, then looked away, focusing on unlocking her own. Her place was secured with a fingerprint lock and had a home security system that would ping her phone if anyone unauthorized tried to get in.

She was just about to unlock the door when a sharp *click* sounded behind her—the unmistakable noise of a door opening.

Willow's senses went on high alert. She turned, and sure enough, the door across the hall had swung open.

He emerged, dressed in a casual jacket, his hair slightly tousled as if he'd just finished drying it. His striking features looked softer and more approachable than usual, the lazy ease in his posture taming the chill that usually radiated from him. For once, he seemed almost… human.

They'd been married for years, but she'd never seen him this relaxed. It was like discovering a hidden side to a character she thought she knew inside and out.

Not that she cared anymore.

Her gaze held only wariness now.

"Back already?" His voice was deep, edged with that same languid nonchalance.

Willow's guard shot up even higher. "What do you want?"

"You know what I want."

She frowned. "No, I don't."

"Let me out of the penalty box." He didn't bother with pretense.

Willow let out a short, incredulous laugh. "You were the one who blocked me first, Mr. Windsor. Why is it that you can play by your own rules, but no one else can?"

"If you enjoy this cat-and-mouse game, that's fine by me," he said, unruffled.

Beasley caught her reaction and frowned as well. "You really think I'm behind that?"

She scoffed. "Afraid to own up?"

He chuckled—coldly. "Do you really think something like that would make you give in?"

"In your dreams," Willow shot back.

"So you believe I'd stoop to something that pointless?" he pressed.

Willow said nothing.

"The footage from the dealership, and the surveillance of you with your editor—that was all York's doing." Beasley tossed his supposed friend under the bus without hesitation.

Willow pressed her lips together.

She'd suspected York all along, but she wasn't about to believe Beasley was innocent in all this.
