Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 162

"He doesn't know we're divorced, so he misunderstood and thought you were still hung up on me. He lost his head for a moment and did something extreme." Beasley threw his friend under the bus, but tried to smooth things over for him.

Willow followed up, her tone sharp. "Then why didn't you tell him we're divorced?"

Beasley looked away. "Personal reasons. That's why I kept quiet."

Willow bit back the urge to press further—were those "personal reasons" named Rosamund?

In her last life, Beasley had gone out of his way to protect Rosamund's reputation, doing everything he could to avoid being photographed with her in public. Now, even though he and Willow were divorced, it hadn't been that long. He still refused to go public with their split, not wanting to give anyone even the slightest chance to paint his childhood friend as the "other woman."

Willow understood, but it still left a bitter taste in her mouth.

Not that she herself wanted the world to know about their disastrous marriage, either.

But she said nothing more. No point humiliating herself by digging deeper.

"After what your old buddy did to me, do you really think I'd want anything more to do with you?" Willow's gaze was icy, her voice even colder. "Staying away from you is the only way I can avoid all this drama."

Beasley could only stare, feeling like he'd hoisted himself with his own petard. His best friend really knew how to make things worse.

"Then let me out of this little black room. If anything comes up, we'll talk on the phone. No need to see each other in person," he said, trying to strike a deal.

"If I let you out, will you move out?" Willow shot back.

She knew how to bargain too.

Beasley hesitated.

He'd just had the place refurnished, new appliances and all. He'd even planned to spend the night here.

"If you move out, I'll let you go," Willow pressed.

He finally nodded. "Alright."

In front of him, Willow took his number off her blocked list.

Still, seeing that the annoying red exclamation mark was finally gone put him in an unexpectedly good mood. He pocketed his phone and headed back to his own place.

The next morning, Willow got up early, planning to swing by her father's to pick up a cake.

As she stepped out, she glanced automatically at the door across the hall.

She had no idea if Beasley had stayed the night or left already. He hadn't parked in the garage, so she couldn't even tell from his car.

But remembering that he'd be moving out soon brought her some relief.

Moving out would be so much easier for him than it would for her.

Pushing aside her irritation, she headed downstairs, got in her car, and drove away.
