Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 164

"Willa, a few days ago I promised Lionel I'd help him pursue his true love, but now I want to back out," Juliette confessed, regret coloring her voice.

The truth was, Lionel's so-called true love was none other than Rosamund's younger sister. And Rosamund herself was the woman Beasley had been cheating with. Juliette wanted no part of helping Lionel now.

Willow's curiosity was clearly piqued. "So, who's the girl?"

Juliette took a bite of cake, letting the sweetness linger before she answered. "It's Cordelia—the younger Miss Worthington."

In an instant, Willow understood.

It all came down to her.

She hesitated, then asked, "So what's going to happen if you back out? Will he cut you off completely?"

Willow knew exactly how Juliette felt about Lionel. She also knew Juliette had never told Lionel how she felt, despite Willow once asking her why.

Juliette had shrugged and said she wasn't Lionel's type, so there was no point in making a fool of herself. She didn't even see the use in trying.

That was the difference between Willow and Juliette.

Willow had learned the hard way that throwing yourself at someone who'd never catch you was a recipe for heartbreak, not miracles.

Juliette just shrugged. "Wouldn't it be better if he did? Saves me from having to see his face all the time."

Willow knew Juliette was determined to bury her feelings for Lionel for good, so she didn't try to talk her out of it. Instead, she joked, "Guess that means I won't be mooching any more perks from Mr. Scott."

Juliette laughed. "Don't worry, I've still got a stack of other five-star hotel vouchers. Missing out on his isn't going to break me."

The exhibition this time was a charity show—all proceeds would go toward improving the lives of children in remote rural areas.

Willow fell in love with two ink paintings and bought them both, spending a small fortune.

Juliette, who came from a middle-class family and had a decent salary from her job, also made a purchase. She chose a striking painting of peonies in full bloom, vibrant and lush.

She'd always had a natural flair for boldness, and her personal style never bent to anyone else's tastes. She dressed for herself, never pretending to be sweet and innocent—not even for someone she loved.

To her, if someone was drawn to a carefully constructed image instead of the real her, it was nothing but an illusion, a fleeting mirage. It meant nothing.

Willow had driven her own car over, and since it had more space than Juliette's, they loaded all three paintings into her trunk. Later, she'd drop them off at Juliette's apartment—and maybe stay for a visit.
