Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 172

"I've got their bill—put it on my card." Connor, thinking himself quite the gentleman, smoothly blocked Juliette's attempt to pay, flashing a smile at the cashier.

Both Juliette and Willow's faces fell instantly. Juliette shot him a glare and snapped, "Are you out of your mind?"

She yanked her phone back and handed it once more to the young cashier. "Ignore him. Please just check us out."

The cashier looked bewildered, momentarily at a loss.

Daisy, standing by Connor's side, was already stunned that her boyfriend would offer to pay for two attractive strangers. Now, seeing how little regard these women had for him, she felt jealousy and anger flare up inside her. She wanted nothing more than to march over and slap both of them.

But if she did that, what would happen to her carefully maintained image as a lady?

So, with eyes reddening, Daisy could only defend her man. "My boyfriend was just being nice. How can you talk to him like that?"

Juliette shot a sideways glance at Connor, who seemed to be watching the scene unfold with smug amusement. She could tell he was doing this on purpose—deliberately making a spectacle out of them for his own twisted entertainment.

She had no obligation to play along with his little games.

Willow didn't even bother to respond. She simply urged the still-stunned cashier, "Could you hurry up, please? We're in a rush."

Snapping out of it, the cashier quickly scanned Juliette's phone. With a beep, the payment went through.

Juliette tucked her phone away, ready to leave with Willow. She hadn't even turned to go when Daisy piped up in her sweetest, most saccharine voice, "Hold on! You can't just leave—you owe my boyfriend an apology!"

She even stepped in front of them, blocking their way.

Daisy's motives were twofold: on one hand, she wanted to show Connor how bravely she would defend him; on the other, she wanted him to see just how nasty these two women were to him—maybe that would snuff out any ideas he might have about them.

She could tell these women weren't interested in Connor. But that was only because they didn't know who he really was. If they did…

After leaving the barbecue place, Willow and Juliette had lost all desire to continue shopping. They headed straight for the mall parking garage and made for Juliette's car.

They'd only brought one car out for the movie—Juliette's.

Willow slid into the passenger seat, hesitated a moment, then decided to fill Juliette in on how she knew Connor.

"That guy back there—Connor—I've met him a few times at Beasley's birthday parties."

Juliette frowned, muttering, "Birds of a feather. What a jerk."

"If we ever see him again, let's just steer clear," Willow said.

"Definitely." Juliette gripped the steering wheel, nodded, then asked, "Does he know about you and Beasley's secret marriage?"
