Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 183

"Eve, don't lose your head—he's doing this on purpose," Major said quickly, trying to calm her down. The wasted money made his heart ache: over ten million dollars, gone in a flash! That was enough to buy his parents a luxury villa.

Granted, Evelyn had always been generous with her spending on him, but he'd worked hard to shake off the "kept man" stereotype. Every time she bought him something, he made sure to return the favor with gifts of equal value.

Back and forth like that, most of his earnings ended up right back where they started.

"I know," Evelyn replied, her posture perfectly straight, chin tilted with a prideful defiance. "But I can't just let this go."

Lionel had gone out of his way to defend Willow—that two-faced witch—and was clearly picking a fight with her just to make a point. If she backed down now, he'd just sit there and laugh at her.

She was Miss Windsor, after all. She wasn't about to let herself be humiliated like this. No matter what it cost tonight, she was determined to win that set of emerald pendants.

Cordelia, seated to Evelyn's right, was attending her first auction ever and couldn't believe she'd walked straight into a high-stakes showdown like this one. It was quite the spectacle.

Unfortunately, with only a hundred grand in monthly allowance, Cordelia could do nothing but watch. She couldn't even bid for a thing—this was strictly a spectator sport for her.

York knew Evelyn's temperament all too well, so he kept his mouth shut. Besides, the fact that Lionel was targeting Evelyn so openly, just because she'd tossed out a few spoiled heiress remarks, made York suspicious. It seemed like Lionel was going out of his way to stand up for Willow.

Trying to convince himself there was nothing going on between Mr. Scott and Willow was getting harder by the minute.

Especially considering the last time he'd tailed Willow, she'd gone straight into a hotel owned by The Scott Group.

Suddenly, a theory flashed through York's mind.

Maybe the reason Willow had agreed so quickly to divorce Beasley was Lionel himself.

Lionel led the applause, and soon the entire auction hall followed suit. The auctioneer, beaming, showered Evelyn with praise over the microphone, lauding her generosity and spirit as the applause thundered around them.

The feud between Evelyn and Lionel was now set in stone.

After the auction, Evelyn blocked Lionel's path.

"I thought Mr. Scott had more nerve than that," she sneered. "But I guess once the price hit thirty million, you lost your stomach for it. Were you scared I'd actually see this through and leave you hanging?"

She'd just spent an extra twenty million because of him—there was no way she was going to let Lionel off that easily.

Major didn't try to stop her this time. He felt the sting of those wasted millions too, and honestly, he wanted Evelyn to give Lionel a piece of her mind on his behalf.
