Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 197

When Ian dropped Willow off at her friend's place, the timing was just as she'd predicted.

He felt a flicker of curiosity about how she'd known, but didn't dwell on it. Maybe Willow had been to his hospital before, so it wasn't strange she had a sense of the distance.

"Would you like to call your friend to make sure she got home?" Ian offered as soon as he parked, pulling out his phone and handing it to Willow.

"Thank you," Willow replied, taking the phone and dialing Juliette's number.

Juliette had gotten home a few minutes before Willow. Seeing Willow's name flash on her screen, she picked up immediately. "Hey, Willa, is that you?"

Willow smiled. "It's me. I'm downstairs at your building. You home yet?"

"Yeah, just got in," Juliette said, then added, "Did the guy who owns this phone drive you here?"

Willow answered with a quiet "Mm," and said, "I'll come up now."

"Okay," Juliette replied, not asking anything else—she'd have plenty of time for questions in person.

Willow ended the call and handed the phone back. "Thanks for the ride. I'll be going now. Goodnight, Dr. Lockwood."

She didn't bother with the usual pleasantries or offers to buy him dinner another time—she just left it at that, as if she wasn't the type to worry about social niceties.

Ian didn't seem to mind. He gave her a polite nod. "Goodnight, Miss Sheffield."

After getting out, Willow stood by the curb, watching Ian's car disappear before turning and heading into the apartment complex.

She made her way up to Juliette's floor with practiced ease. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator and started down the hall, Juliette flung her door open and appeared in the doorway, waiting.

Juliette's eyes widened in disbelief as she listened. "You mean that bastard thought you were sick and just hauled you off to the hospital?"

Willow nodded. "Yeah. He's completely crazy."

"That's not just crazy—that's downright scummy!" Juliette snapped. "Doesn't he get that after a divorce, you're supposed to stay out of each other's lives? And he actually has the nerve to come after you!"

Willow handed her the other mug. "Have some tea, soothe your throat before you keep yelling."

Juliette's voice was beautiful—soft, sultry, never harsh—so even her cursing sounded melodic.

She'd been furious just a moment before, but with Willow's gentle teasing, most of her anger fizzled away.
