Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 209

Willow spent her days at the Research Institute feeling fulfilled and energized.

With the advantage of her past life’s successes, she and her team had brought the world’s most advanced stealth aerial drone to the very brink of completion. The project was in its final sprint—a thrilling, exhausting push toward the finish line.

Until the research officially wrapped, Willow had no plans of returning home. She wanted to avoid any distractions, or worse, getting entangled with a certain someone who’d been persistent in chasing her down.

And so, she ended up staying at the Institute for nearly two months straight.

Tonight, the Institute was hosting a celebration—an intimate gathering to mark the triumphant conclusion of their research mission.

The directors had wanted to throw a proper party for the scientists who’d poured months of sweat and brilliance into this project. But since the drone was still highly classified, they had to keep the festivities low-key and within the walls of the Institute.

Even without glamorous gowns or lavish food and drink, everyone in attendance wore radiant, hard-earned smiles. The sense of accomplishment in the room was almost tangible.

“Dr. Sheffield, you’ve worked so hard these past few months. This is a monumental achievement—one for the history books!” One of the senior directors raised his glass of sparkling cider in place of champagne, leading the group in a toast to Willow, the team leader.

Willow lifted her own glass and smiled warmly. “It’s what I’m here for. And honestly, the reason everything went so smoothly is because everyone on my team gave their all. This honor belongs to each and every one of them.”

The director nodded, beaming, and continued around the room, clinking glasses with every researcher who had contributed.

Laughter and light conversation filled the air. People who were usually serious and meticulous now seemed lighter, more alive, crowding around the director and swapping stories.

“Relax? Please. Nothing out there even comes close to the thrill of building cutting-edge tech like this,” Maurice said, waving off the idea.

“What about your pottery? Don’t you love working with clay at your Silent Oak studio?” Willow asked.

He shrugged. “Pottery is just something I do when I’m bored and stuck outside the lab. It hardly counts as a real passion.”

Willow chuckled. “No wonder you’re always itching for the next mission. You’d happily live in the lab if they let you.”

“And you? What do you do to pass the time when you’re not working?” Maurice looked at her with genuine curiosity. He knew she was brilliant at so many things, but what was Willow like when she was off the clock? Suddenly, he really wanted to know.
