The word “flashy” was actually something Juliette used to describe Lionel.
After hearing Juliette say it so often, Willow had picked it up herself.
Now, watching Lionel from across the café, Willow couldn’t help but think he looked exactly like a peacock fanning its feathers—impossible to miss.
Was he meeting a girl he liked for dinner here?
Willow was curious, but not enough to follow him and snoop.
Instead, she headed straight to the private dining room Juliette had reserved and waited for her friend.
Five minutes later, Juliette arrived right on time, pushing open the door. “Willa, I’m so sorry—traffic was a nightmare. I hope I didn’t keep you waiting.”
Both of them were the type who liked to arrive early; being late was unthinkable.
Willow smiled. “You’re not late at all. Right on the dot.”
Juliette set down her purse and sank into the booth across from Willow. “Did you order yet?”
“Not yet,” Willow replied. “I thought we’d decide together when you got here.”
She knew Juliette’s usual preferences, but wasn’t sure if there were any new favorites lately. It was better to let her friend choose for herself.
“Perfect.” Juliette pulled out her phone and scanned the menu’s QR code. After making her selections, she passed the phone to Willow. “Take a look—see if there’s anything else you want to add.”
Willow scanned the menu and shook her head. “This is good. I’m just worried you won’t finish it all.”
Juliette grinned. “Don’t worry, I went to the gym this morning—I’m starving!”
The portions at these Japanese restaurants were always small, so Juliette made up for it in quantity.
Once they’d placed their order, the two of them settled in to chat.
“Hard to believe it’s been two years, and the food’s still just as good.”
Willow seized the moment and asked, “Is Mr. Scott still trying to win over Miss Cordelia?”
Juliette’s eyes flickered for a moment before she smiled. “Probably. We haven’t talked in over a month.”
If he really liked someone, he should keep his distance from other women—even close female friends. Guess he finally took her advice.
Juliette felt a sense of relief, but also a strange emptiness inside.
Willow picked up on the subtle shift in Juliette’s mood.
After all, when you’ve liked someone for years, letting go isn’t something that happens overnight. The ache comes and goes, sometimes sharper than you expect. She understood that, all too well.
But that was a lesson from her past life—a wound she’d already healed from. Now, when it came to Beasley, there was only one thing left in her heart: revenge. Nothing more, nothing less.
