Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 239

Willow glanced at Waller, a flicker of surprise in her eyes.

Was it just her imagination, or did Waller seem livelier than she remembered from her previous life? He was actually starting conversations now.

But Ryan looked even more astonished than Willow. He couldn't help but glance at Waller again. “You’ve got your own training schedule. If Miss Sheffield really runs into trouble, you probably wouldn’t make it in time. It’s safer to let me handle it.”

Ryan made the comment deliberately, hoping to fish for more information.

He and Waller were the same age—both twenty-five, with Ryan actually being a few months older. And yet, this was the first time he’d ever seen Waller take such an interest in anything concerning a woman.

Willow was just as curious about how Waller would respond. In her memory, he’d always been the quiet type; even when his father had forced him to go on a date with her in their past lives, he’d mostly nodded or shaken his head, rarely speaking at all.

But she knew Waller had a gift for flying. Back at the academy, his scores had been so outstanding that he’d graduated straight to the rank of lieutenant, with a captain’s promotion lined up for early next year.

He had that unmistakable air of a soldier—sharp, upright, and unyielding. Coupled with his striking features, Waller was the sort of man who drew attention wherever he went; one look and you knew he wasn’t someone to mess with.

If only he weren’t so taciturn, Willow thought, and Juliette weren’t so easily bored, she would have said Waller and Juliette made a perfect pair. At least on the surface, their personalities complemented each other: one steady and strong, the other lively and gentle—a perfect balance.

And more than anything, if the two of them ever did get together, Willow wouldn’t have to worry about creeps like Connor harassing Juliette; Waller would never let anything happen to her.

Of course, all this was just wishful thinking. Willow knew better than anyone that you couldn’t force matters of the heart. Sometimes, no matter how strong the connection, people still drifted apart.

Waller met both their gazes without a trace of discomfort, his expression unchanged, though his voice took on a rare seriousness. “Either way is fine. What matters most is that, if you’re ever in danger, you ask for help immediately.”

Ryan was stunned all over again. Was this the same Waller? Had he really just strung together an entire sentence? Was the world turning upside down?

Waller was watching too.

Willow’s eyes were unfocused, but Ryan’s question snapped her back to the present.

No, those memories hadn’t been a nightmare. They were once a brutal reality.

It took her a moment to steady herself, her gaze gradually clearing.

“I’m fine,” she replied softly.

Her voice was faint, her lips a little pale—though no one noticed, thanks to the vivid shade of Chanel lipstick Juliette had given her.
