Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 252

“How did you know?” Juliette blurted out, her shock making her forget herself for a moment.

Almost as soon as the words left her lips, she realized her mistake—but it was already too late to take them back.

Ryan and Waller both turned to look at Willow, their gazes settling on her in perfect sync.

Juliette silently cursed herself. Had she just let something slip?

Willow reached over and gently placed her hand atop Juliette’s, quietly reassuring her. Then she looked up at Ryan and said, “Mr. Chase, could we not talk about that person?”

Her words answered Ryan’s question while also steering the conversation away from dangerous territory.

“My apologies. I was out of line,” Ryan said, nodding politely.

But in truth, Ryan had already guessed the answer. He’d brought it up on purpose, hoping to tip off the taciturn man beside him: his date might still be entangled with someone else—someone who happened to be Beasley, the most powerful businessman in Kingston City. He’d best tread carefully.

Willow understood Ryan’s intentions. As long as she didn’t personally reveal her connection to Beasley, the three-million-dollar penalty clause wouldn’t fall on her shoulders. She was more than happy to play along—ideally, Waller would take the hint and give up on recruiting her as an ally.

Desperate to make up for her earlier gaffe, Juliette threw herself into finding new, unrelated topics of conversation, determined to keep the ride from turning unbearably awkward.

Waller, for his part, remained silent the entire way.

Willow only chimed in occasionally.

Yet she could feel Waller’s gaze drifting toward her from time to time.

He seemed different from the Waller she’d known in another life. The old Waller would never have stared at her so openly, nor would he have ever messaged her on WhatsApp—even if it was just once, it was enough to make her notice something had changed.

He noticed Willow glance at her phone, her brow furrowing slightly, before she locked the screen and slipped the phone back into her bag.

She then leaned forward and typed an address into the car’s GPS.

Waller glanced over—it was the same address she’d shared with him on WhatsApp last time.

He remembered.

He started the engine and pulled away, heading for her place.

For once, Willow was grateful for Waller’s quiet nature. If he wasn’t likely to start a conversation, all she had to do was pretend to fall asleep.
