At ten in the morning, the press conference for Sudden Dawn—a big-budget sci-fi blockbuster co-produced by Windsor & Co. and a newly established film studio—officially began.
Hosting the event was the country's most famous talk show host, and the guest list boasted Kingston City's elite, along with industry leaders who had flown in from all over the nation to show their support.
Inside the venue, reporters and invited guests had already taken their seats. Outside, however, waves of fans surrounded the hotel, crowding the entrance until there was barely room to move—a true spectacle.
Each lead actor had been given a private dressing room, and, as the leading lady and headline star, Rosamund's was naturally the largest and most comfortable.
Of all the cast, only Rosamund had publicly confirmed her attendance on the film's website. The identities of the remaining stars—including the male lead and the supporting actors—were kept strictly under wraps, to be revealed one by one as the conference began.
"Nervous?" York asked, stepping into Rosamund's suite. He couldn't hide a smile as he watched her, the center of attention, surrounded by stylists fussing over every detail of her appearance.
Rosamund wore a deep red, crystal-embellished mermaid gown that hugged her figure perfectly. Around her slender, graceful neck hung an exquisite emerald necklace, its vibrant green setting off the rich crimson of her dress, making her shine all the more.
At York's question, Rosamund turned, her gaze instinctively scanning behind him, searching for that tall, familiar silhouette she'd been longing to see. He wasn't there.
She'd prepared herself for this, but disappointment still hit her hard.
Still, she was an actress—an Academy Award winner, no less—and she hid her emotions flawlessly. York didn't notice a thing.
"Honestly?" Rosamund flashed him a bright, playful smile. "You'll laugh, but every time I step out on stage, I get nervous."
The smile caught York off guard, and for a moment, his heart skipped a beat.
"Beasley said he had a project to oversee personally, so he won't be making it today," York managed, tearing his eyes away as he crossed to the couch.
A staff member brought over a cup of hot tea and a plate of pastries for him.
Emmett had always loved Sudden Dawn. He'd even tried to buy the adaptation rights himself, hoping to star in it, convinced he could make the character a sensation.
But he'd been a step too late. Beasley had snapped up the rights to all of STAR's novels, except the most recent one, Fleeting Shadows.
Missing out on Sudden Dawn had stung for a long time.
Maybe it was out of spite that he'd paid someone to accuse STAR's new book of plagiarism, hoping it would be pulled from shelves and scare off any potential buyers.
Yet, after all the twists and turns, here he was—cast as the lead in Sudden Dawn after all.
After weighing everything, Emmett made up his mind: if filming went smoothly, he'd back off. He'd tell Jeremy to drop the lawsuit.
